Yup, I preordered yesterday as soon as I saw that link. VERY excited for it.

This is one I originally told myself I wouldnt buy on Standard at all in hopes of a Blu release, and I heald off for a while. Ended up getting the set last year in some ridiculous sale. I mean ungodly cheap. Cheap enough where I have no problems re-buying for Blu. Hopefully the specs come out nicely.

Sweet!! I bought the first 2 episodes of the PSN vid store but stopped after that because of the ludicrous DRM. This is definately a purchase for me so i can watch the rest of it!

Decent news, but when will the other studios follow with thier own Blu-ray plan? Especially Viz media.

They'd sell better if they didn't region lock them. Idiots.

+2, and thanks for the heads-up! Just pre-ordered it. Maybe if it does well, we can expect the anime to start hitting blu. That would be awesome.

just like u nick said if we support anime companies with complete series boxsets coming out to bluray or even just any blu-ray anime title so soon maybe more anime companies will take Funimation's example and also start releasing more anime sooner rather then later

Compared to DVD, BD regions are more open. This creates a different problem specifically for anime since the content producers are Japanese companies and other regions are only getting distribution rights.

FUNimation is releasing it in the US but these discs can be played in Japan. If Gonzo doesn't release it earlier than the US or at the same time, they are going to lose out.

As for region Bs and Cs, you can either contact your anime distributor about releasing this title on BD or get a Region A player.

Good to see more anime titles making it to BR outside of Japan, but I just hope they don't mess up. Some of the things that have bothered me in past Japanese works released in the US:
  • substitute the JP trailers with US (dubbed or forced subs) trailers
  • forcing subtitles on extras such as making-ofs. I'd like to have the possibility to turn them off
  • putting a crappy mono-track in Japanese and a superior quality English track, which no one wants to here (here's looking at you, DBZ movies)
  • no Japanese menu, even if Japanese is set as your primary language in your BR-player
Basically, I want them to keep the exact same BR as the Japanese release, just with subtitles added to it and multiple language menus. As soon as they start messing with the lay-out, forced subtitles and the likes, it turns me off and I then tend to turn towards the original Japanese release.
