Default playing blu-ray pc to tv

Hi,
I have one little problem playing blu-ray from my pc to tv.
My tv is connected via hdmi/dvi converter cable on 8800gtx card with vista 64bit ultimate.
Why does everytime i play the movie, the screen's edges are over the screen?
I lose around 5% of the resolution because of this. (it zooms in)
my tv supports 1080p/24hz-60hz via hdmi.
I tried updating the driver to the newest, I tried resizing the screen using nvidia application (drag to fit the size), and I tried the different blu-ray software players, same problem.

thanks in advance.

1) Do you have the TV set up as a TV, or as another monitor?
2) Do you have the resolution set as 1920x1080?

And just to confirm, you are going from DVI on your gfx card to the HDMI on your TV?

1) I do have my dedicated monitor, and also my pc is hooked up to my HD-TV. And my pc recognize my TV as LG HD-TV. (if that's what you are asking

2) Yes, it is set as 1920x1080.

And yes, my pc's v-card outputs from DVI to my TV's HDMI input.

I really appreciate your help.

ps. In case this helps, it works fine on my back-up dvd's (copied), but on original dvd, and origial Blu-ray gives me that trouble (as well as back-up BD-r movies.)

Have you tried disabling the computer's monitor and just using the TV when you want to play a movie?

Hank,

HDTV's are a monitor and not a traditional CRT TV, so you have to think of it and treat it like one. Your PC can't setup everything - your TV has its own settings that need to be setup as well, especially for HDMI inputs. WS HD's also have settings that allow you to stretch a P/S broadcast or movie to fit a WS display. If it's on Superstretch, it'll take a picture past the edges as well.

Graphics cards only drive the video signal and adjust for your PC's local monitor. That signal, when sent to an external display, is still only adjusted for the PC monitor - you have to adjust that external's setup first before making any adjustments to your card.

HDTV settings are normally accessed via the remote, although you can operate it manually from the TV itself. Your remote should have a Menu function. Check for your TV's HDMI input setup, and adjust it accordingly. probably just Enable.

In addition to HDMI settings, you TV has its own Horizontal/Vertical Position adjustment just like any computer monitor does. Look for it as well on the same Menu screen options. It should be okay on the factory default, but if it isn't, adjust it to where you want it.

If you can't find the right menu option, check your system's manual and look up HDMI and Horizontal/Vertical Settings.

Thanks for the another option. I never thought of configuring from my HDTV directly. I'll try that when I go home later on this weekend. That settings would be on the same place where I can set the screen size right? (default, 4:3, 16:10, zoom, and fit to screen)

It should be - I've got a Sharp Aquos, and it has its own HDMI enable setting independent of the Horizontal/Vertical size/position settings. Like I said, if it's not readily apparent, check your manual - if you don't have it, you can always download it from the LG site. In fact, you should check the LG site anyway - there's likely to be an FAQ or other support response / setup resolution on the problem you're having. I see this all the time on other forums, and as I said it's usually because most people keep thinking of HDTV's as a traditional CRT, but it's really just a big monitor.

I've been doing some research on it, apparently there is a name for this problem: it's called "overscanning issues"

Well I have LG 42LB5D, seems like it is discontinued, but I found the exact same spec of my tv with the different model number. (I really don't see the difference ?!) seems like I can set the resolution from my TV, not depending on GPU outputs. (maybe it needs to synchronize with the TV and PC resolution?)

Anyways, thanks for the great support.
I know where to come back when I'm in trouble again

Yup! That solved the problem. All I had to do was set the resolution from the TV, and mess around with the scalings from nvidia control panels.

Now I can watch the movie in full resolution without cutting parts on the edges.

This is awesome!

VGA cables are not HDCP compliant so the video won;t be allowed to play. What video card do you have? What Samsung TV do you have? If both are HDCP compliant then yes you can play blu-rays by connecting your computer to the TV with an HDMI cable.

It sounds like either your graphics card or display is not HDCP compliant.

Default PC to TV problem as well with a different line

When I play a blu ray HD x264 in VLC to watch on my TV, I notice a times when a scene is shifting, there is a horitzontal line that annoys me, is there any way to fix this? Should I use alternate software like PowerDVD to play the blu ray? Is there a setting i'm not aware of? I have a new HD NVIDIA video card and i'm plugging HDMI from my pc to HDMI in my tv. I feel that this line shouldn't appear. Same thing happens when I play emulator SNES on my tv, when the character is walking and the screen is changing, that line appears. Can someone help me fix this? I am sure it's a setting of some sort to tweak.

Try updating your Nvidia drivers first; if both VLC & SNES still show it, report it to Nvidia. If only VLC shows it, try a commercial software player (preferably TMT5, *not* PDVD) and/or report it to the VLC forums.

No way, Jose. First of all, BD copying discussions (even so-called "fair use" copying like this) are forbidden on this forum; secondly, even the solutions that do exist work only with PC BD drives, not PS3s. Get a PC BD drive, then Google "SlySoft" for further assistance.

Default Can someone help?

I have recently bought a SAMSUNG HT-C5500 Home Theatre System. It has a Blu-Ray player with HDMI Output; USB IN; AUX IN; Video Output; WLAN; 5.1 CH Speaker Output Connectors.
- I have a Samsung HDTV with HDMI support
- I also have a HP Laptop with HDMI Output.

I want to have Video display from my laptop to my TV and want to have audio through Home Theatre System (5.1 speakers)? Is it possible? Can someone suggest a solution as to how can I do this?

Thanks.
