Default Petition to move Halloween from October 31st to the last Saturday in October...

I have been screaming for years that this needs to happen! It blows when Halloween falls on a weekday because if you are like me and love this time of year, you can't really celebrate it because of having to be at work the next day. Plus if you have kids, I know they would enjoy it much more knowing they can be up later and not have school the next day. If you have any appreciation for this holiday at all, please sign the petition!

I know where I live, the decision has occaisonally been made in the past to observe the celebration of Halloween to a day other than 10/31. I like the idea of letting individual communities making that decision but I do not think it is right to change it officiallly. Might even be an issue for the ACLU (?) as Halloween is revered as almost a holiday (for lack of a better word) by some Pagan groups

From Wikipedia (and therefore completely true):

The modern holiday of Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (Irish pronunciation: [ˈsˠaunʲ]; from the Old Irish samain).[2] The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes [3] regarded as the "Celtic New Year".[4] Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the alive and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, where the bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.

You can't mess with that.

Halloween is Oct 31. Nothing is going to change that.

Do you trick or treating at dusk and you'll still be fresh for work the next day.

-Brian

p.s. It's still fun to throw a party over the following weekend ... costume parties can be fun anytime.

Man if you can get a whole country to change the Halloween date as you wish I would be quite amazed.

Halloween isn't a real holiday, it's just a way to boost candy sales during the year. Like the way Feb. 14th tricks men into buying gifts for their significant others. That way they can jack up rose prices to insane levels once a year.

I was shocked to goto a store and see Halloween cards. Who would actually send a Halloween card?!?

Anyone got that 'save HD-DVD' petition?

I wouldn't mind signing that too.

What a dumbass idea.
