Default Work Rant

So for anyone who has viewed my profile( Does any body care about me ) You will see my occupation as a babysitter. Well, I am not but now that we are getting busy at work, DAMN, I may as well be one( a well paid one ). I work in Food and Beverage at a resort. Been at my job for over 11 years, a third of my life. My line of work is NOT rocket science. It is mindless labor for my servers. I have too think a little though. I am a Banquet captain and make sure all runs smooth and stuff during events. I do not get how some of these people live everyday life. I'm talking about the people who have been there for many years and still act like it is their first day on the job. Problem is NO ONE EVER GETS FIRED, unless they fail a drug test or something like that.

I do like my job. It's easy, Ive been there many years, I Get almost any day off i need. Never work holidays. I get ALOT of time off in the summer. It's like a teacher schedule but almost double the pay, if not more.
I mean ,it has got me a house, 2 great cars, 2 HDTV, a PS3, Audio equipment and I have money to make sure my kids and wife are happy and have things I never had growing up. That is why I stay at my job.

I want to hear from all, especially those in F&B and tell how your job is. What annoys you? What makes you stay there? Etc Etc.

Thanks for listening to me rant I have just had 2 bad days in a row. I cant wait for pay day.

Okay, nice to hear that you fend for yourself well.
But I don't understand, you are or you are not a babysitter ?

I'm a bit confused

One part of my job i to tell the staff what to do. I have anywhere from 2-3 staff upwards to 30 staff per event. Thing is, every event is different BUT the procedures are usually all the same and the way to set up and serve is also the same. I have to always say things like please do this or dont fight, just get along, You need to share etc etc. That is why I consider myself a babysitter. It seriously is like kids at work. Imagine a class of preschoolers and the things they do. It's kinda like that. There are some great servers and they do a great job but it is a matter of time before the "kids" get on their nerve too.

Now do I make sense?

I guess most jobs have a downside. I have met many who are lazy and unmotivated in all aspects of their life involving work. I think some people grow too comfortable with the status quo, especially if there is no fear of reprisal or reprimand.

I guess you're right. We do get paid well for what we do. The cooks make like 12 dollars an hour, some less while the servers are making upwards of 20-25 an hour. I just get mad because they should be able to do the basic task blind folded by now. i still get in trouble if they mess up. Nothing severe but I DO NOT like having to be talked to for someone elses mistake. I could go somewhere else making more money but I have seen many leave for more money and end up back sooner or later. More money DOES NOT equall happiness with me.
