Not surprised that many of them are 1st party exclusives, however I'm sure that with over 200 PS3 games out, there could be more 7.1 games out there. For certain games like Uncharted, the audio has to be selected from the menu options. On Uncharted, the 7.1 LPCM option doesn't even show up in the menu options unless the PS3 itself is set to output 7.1.

If people want to start checking other games and post back here, I would be glad to update the list and give you the credit. And you definitely don't need a fancy expensive receiver, all that you need is a receiver that accepts 7.1 Multi-channel PCM over HDMI. Your receiver does not have to have any advanced audio processing (Dolby TrueHD, or DTS-HD MA) and it doesn't need HDMI v1.3. Beware of the cheaper receivers though that only do "HDMI pass-through" on the audio, and there are a few that only process 2-channel audio over HDMI.

he made another thread back in the original forum. guess it wasnt moved yet. dont know if its been updated recently. but we were pretty careful to make sure if it was 7.1. some games dont seem to be. but if we heard something from a rear back channel then it was listed as 7.1.

the author of the thread tested those in yellow (psn boards blank in this thread) and we literally had our ears on the speakers and played a few minutes. if we heard something it was listed. not all audio quality is equal and some sports games for example only the announcer was in the rear back channels.
i would trust his tests and mine but cant vouch for the others. if there was an error well, i guess thats why psn names were listed next to the game

Ok I see what you're saying. I did notice some audio glitches in Heavenly Sword, where certain parts of a level would have rear surround audio, but no side surround audio. I just briefly checked a few levels on COD4, but I could have been experiencing something similar.

and you dont really need to deselect anything either. using hdmi pcm, everything is selected for audio and pcm showed up on the receiver. we found though that even when the receiver showed 7.1 it wasnt the case sometimes. thats why we used the ear to speaker technique

The speaker to the ear was my technique also. the reason I deselected the other options during testing was me being overly cautious that the PS3 would output 5.1 and the receiver would matrix 7.1. But you are right, the PS3 does it automatically.

Its so weird that they would do that..only put certain sound effects and menu music on the rear channels. I'm going to take it off the list.

some titles took real effort to find any sound in the rear backs, and then some was only a hint of a "slash" or something. but it was there. this is why i said before quality isnt equal. one game (cant remember which) had sound in one surround back channel but not the other like it was 6.1 which was real confusing.
if i remember correctly nba08 had one of the best audio ive heard on a game.

It sounds like maybe some games start experimenting with adding the rear channel effects and then don't finsh it. Maybe because most people won't notice or they are running behind schedule or something. But they still leave some of the effects in the final code. If there is something there though, that can be consistently reproduced it should count though imo. I did play NBA 08 in 5.1 and was impressed, I'm really looking forward to NBA 09 now.

I believe all exclusive PS3 games have 5.1/7.1 LCPM audio.

I have tested Unreal Tournament 3, and it is partially 7.1 PCM. Besides the brief splash screen in the beginning of the game. 7.1 PCM is also implemented in several (jaw-dropping) pre-rendered cut scenes through out campaign mode. Again, just the cut scenes, not the gameplay.
