Yes, but you won't get the benefit of Blu. You still need a Blu player though. Might as well stay with regular DVD's unless you're slowly upgrading as I did. My friend does this too and I just dont get it. He plays Blu's on a regular TV.

i had a ps3 for about 2 months on a SDTV but never watched a blu-ray. I played Drake and Skate and was impressed but i was completely blown away when i saw it on my new TV. It made drake look 1,000,000 x better and i couldn't believe it.

Yes I will be upgrading to an HDTV soon (and my gal's got one at her house) so I won't totally be in the dark.
Thanks guys! Soon as I get my PS3, DVD's are done for me. |

As people have said, there's no problem with getting a PS3 now; but you really won't be able to get the full experience without an HDTV. It's like watching a movie on YouTube versus seeing it in the theatres... Same movie, but completely different at the same time.

My sis has a PS3 on her SDTV, (non HD). She likes it but suffers from text that is too small in some games due to the HD nature.
However, Blu-rays will look better than DVDs on an SD screen only cause they have much less compression, and the sound would be better too usually. It would be minimal though. You would still benefit from the menus and extras either way, plus you could play them when you upgrade your TV to an HDTV later. That is my sister's plan. |
