This is my post from Malaysia,
Why aren't we seeing more 7.1 titles in any format? The few 7.1 title that are out are superb. I want them to re-release Transformers in 7.1 DTS-HD MA 24bit/96khz Iron Man in 7.1 Dolby True-HD 24bit/96khz I also wanna see some 192khz titles. Got all the hardware for it but no titles. ![]() |

Movies are not recorded/mastered at 192 Khz. And you can't hear any difference to 96 Khz anyway that is due to the higher sampling rate. Or 48 Khz. Number fetishism.

The big question is how many of the recent catalog titles w/ 7.1 were created from the original audio stems or if the 7.1 track was created by post processing the original track.
As far as going to 24b@192kHz, that audio quality would take a very high percentage of the overall bandwidth and video would suffer. Personally I think 24b@48kHz is going above and beyond for movie audio. And with todays movies being mastered 24b/48k upsampling is not going to get a higher quality. Even taking old analog tracks, the bandwidth of those is most likely no higher than 15kHz to 20kHz. So applying Nyquists theory, you only need to sample at 2x the max frequency to fully resolve the audio. So even sampling at 44.1k is more than adequate to fully capture the audio. I think the number of bits that make up a frame are more significant for audio quality than the sampling rate once you meet the Nyquist requirement. |

7.1 as a standard will take time, but good things are worth waiting for.

Aside from SDDS 8 Channel (5 fronts, 2 rears and a sub), theaters are not set up for 7.1. Some are set up for 5.1 EX/ES, but that's even just matrixed. If theaters haven't jumped for 7.1, don't expect 7.1 to become a standard.
