When you use the backup utility on the ps3 to back up data, what exactly is backed up. I have ps3 data, ps2 data, game demos and game trailers. Is all of this stuff backed up or is only the data backed up?

From my understanding, it makes a copy of all content on the HDD. I'm not 100% sure though.

The only files that I have are ones that say archive on them. It would make sense if all the data is backed up. The most important data is my ps3 and ps2 data. The demos and trailers are the least important, since I can redownload everything from the store.

I'd back up the saves to Memory Stick or whatever just incase. Not sure if you need MagicGate protected media to copy saves individually, especially PS2 saves.

I keep my old PSP 1GB Memory Stick in my PS3 so I backup my saves as I go along.

When i backed up my PS3 and had to restore it after putting in a new drive, it was as if nothing had changed. Everything was there exactly as I left it, except I had a much bigger hard drive.

So I think it backs up pretty much everything.

Does it matter about the type of storage media that you use as long as you have enough space available? I used an external hard drive plus I copied the data to another external hard drive.
