Default Why does Blu-Ray lack so many new releases?

I just had a question as to why I look at upcoming new releases on DVD and see maybe 1 in 3 major releases are hitting Blu-Ray. Is there any time frame to which movie studios plan on pushing Blu-Ray a bit more instead of still testing the waters? I realize the cost, demand, and availability of Blu-Ray movies and players are still on the up and up, but for them to win the Hi Def war, they should pack a major punch and allow as many titles as possible so buyers and avid Blu-Ray fans begin the switch from either HD or regular DVD to solely Blu-Ray. Granted this comes from a Blu-Ray junkie to say the very least...I'm just looking to get my fix and never run out!!!

I hear you, but with soon close to 200 titles you won't run out too quickly . Also take a look at the 'Insiders thread'; you can find some information on how long it takes to do an encoding.

Money, the number of DVD players out there vastly outnumber both HD formats combined. You know when you release on DVD you have a very large pool of customers, and the costs are much lower, hence greater profit.

The sooner HD-DVD dies, the better for HD fans everywhere.

Paladin's comment is pretty well on the money, I think. They want to win the format war, but the profit margins on DVDs are so much better right now. Once the PS3 debuts in Europe, as well as the $600 BR player this summer, I believe things will go more the way you want them, since there will be a flood of BR players on the market at that time.

Also, box office returns have been down the past few years, so with box office numbers lower than normal, it becomes even more risky to spend quite a bit of money on a new technology when the movies haven't made as much as normal when they're in theaters.

Yeah I kinda figured. I basically had about a 500 DVD collection but have since unloaded the majority of them going for the higher quality fix and can't seem to get enough!

I just wish people would understand that Blu-Ray is the future and lean towards that more. Also prompting the regular movie users (users to go with my whole junkie thing) to upgrade to a much better product. I guess I'm just being impatient!

Razarsharp, go to this forum topic: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1527#post61527

I think it will help people see BR IS the future.

I see that, I have a ton of friends who "are waiting" to see the winner before they invest. No matter what links I give, all the techy info of each device, and even after they have seen Blu-ray first hand. Bunch of babies!

They only thing I would change about Blu-Ray is the packaging of the movies. Reminds me of those cheap DVD's a used to buy with that weak plastic and shear cover art. But that's me nitpicking.

What is everyone's current favorite in terms of video/audio of the movies now available?

In terms of Video :

For Film: The Prestige
For HD Camera: Crank
For CG: Ice Age

As far as Audio goes, Black Hawk Down is pretty amazing. In terms of just overall movies to showcase Blu-ray, I really think Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven put it all together very well.

Yeah I own Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven (both the first movies I bought).

What about Men of Honor? I just picked up Goodfellas...very nice given the age of the original movie.

Video and Audio: Nine Inch Nails: Beside You in Time

Film itself: Prestige or Departed

Lord of War puts the three together very well, too.
