for the most part, every theatrical movie on Blu-ray is encoded at 1080p24 on the disc. there may be a few exceptions, but i don't know of any off the top of my head.

most of the ones that aren't are the concert releases and special interest...I.E. Planet Earth Discovery Channel Release, BBC Galapagos..etc.

the only theatrical release that I can think of that is only 1080i is Short Circuit. Everything else is 1080p outside of concerts(including opera) and made for tv movies and some television shows.

My player (Pioneer/Elite BDP-05FD) has an "Output Resolution" button on the remote which displays the source resolution and the player's output resolution on-screen.

On my TV's remote I have a Display button I can press and it will show some info, including the 1080/24p in the upper right hand corner.
Fool around with your remote and maybe you'll find something similar

@KamiAmaya

Thanks for your reply.

If i press the display-button on my tv's remote all i see is "1080/p". There is no mentioneing the "24". Should i be assured that it is 1080/24p ?

The player can send it in 1080/24 and the tv can receive it in 1080/24. So the manuals say.

Is there someone with the s300 and the 40v3000-tv who can tell me?

The movies however are looking

Well your TV, the 40v3000, I'm assuming its a Sony KDL-40v3000? If it is it's the same as mine only a smaller size, and I didn't have to change any setting on the TV itself.
I think it's on your player, I'm looking at the manual for it now. Do you have a Video Setup Option anywhere? Because under that option there should be a "24p Output" selection that should be set to on... Other then that I'm not sure because I'm using a PS3

And yes your TV will display 1080/24p, not just 1080p

Yes, it's the Sony KDL-40v3000. I see in your sig that you have the 46" version.

I do have set the option 24p to "ON" in the video setup.
Otherwise, could it be the HDMI-cable being faulty? (just guessing)

Also i know that there is a difference between the US-versions and the EU-versions of these tv's. IE: the XMB-menu you have and i don't. 10-bit vs 8-bit.
Could that be the problem?

I don't know.

I saw the light today

On the remote is a button called "Video Format". With that button you switch thru the available mode of display from 480i to 1080/50p OR (here it comes) 1080/24p. So i set the value to "Auto" and it showed 1080/24p while viewing Nathalie Portman in "V for Vendetta".

Anyway, thank you all for helping me.

PS, since 1-october Sony started a special action here in the Netherlands. If you buy a tv (100 Hz or 200 Hz) you'll get the bdp-s350 with 6 movies.

Glad you got it fixed. I saw in the manual about the "video format" button, I got busy with something and totally forgot to post about it Sorry about that.

Oh, and isn't V for Vendetta freaking awesome!
I love the explosions and the Tchaikovsky music playing, I usually watch those scenes over and over again
