Default Fireproof - Blu-ray Release Date?

Does anyone know if Fireproof has a Blu-ray release date yet? Also, will it be region coded or will it work in Europe also?

Thanks in advance.....

Yes, I guess I'm jumping the gun a bit, I just didn't know if they'd announced it for the future yet.

I doubt this will be released on Blu. (Small studio, small budget)

I could be wrong though...

Release date for the DVD/BD hasn't been announced yet. From looking at the Facing the Giants DVD release, I'm guessing it'll be region-free. With such a small production, they want to get their movie to as many people as possible.

Sony will be doing the DVD release. I will be hoping for a Blu-ray release (the film was filmed down the road from me).

In before closing...

Oh, I didn't know Sony was handling the video release. It may be coming to Blu after all.

I would like to encourage anyone who liked Fireproof to check out the upcoming Ving Rhames film Saving God.

It was late, and I MEANT to say that Sony will PROBABLY be doing the DVD release. That's just a guess on my part. The "theatrical release" was handled by Samuel Goldwyn Films. The majority of their DVD releases the last few years have been by Sony (with a couple of exceptions by Fox and First Look) including "Facing The Giants". I could be completely wrong, but I expect it to be Sony.

The two main obstacles in it's path to making it to Blu-ray are:

1. The target market. I'm not sure a "Christian" film really appeals to the Blu-ray demographic... yet! Hopefully, Sony will take a chance on it anyway to broaden their releases.

2. Technology. "Facing The Giants" was filmed using an HD camera (as I said, I live nearby where they shot the film, and I read a local newspaper's articles during filming), but according to IMDB, they shot it using an HD camera with 720p resolution. I do not know what they filmed "Fireproof" with, but if they filmed it with the same camera, the studio may feel that upconverting it to 1080p may not be worth it.

Have any of you seen the movie yet? What is your take on it. I have read some reviews from some Christian radio stations saying they felt bad for promoting it, but they did anyway.

I would like to here ya'lls take on it. There are a few couples here that have thought about seeing it, but I hate wasting money.

Okay...you all had me a little curious there so I went to the website for this movie.

Holy Schmoly....They brought back Kirk Cameron....from the ashes!!!!

That kat still looks the same.

I can't see it though...I am far toooooo single right now. I am enjoying the carefully placed lie that my Blu-rays and guitar gear make me happy. If I saw a movie like this, the thin veil would be lifted and I would be miserable for a month.

My church has been promoting this full force and my pastor has preached a couple of sermons from its companion book, Love Dare. Everyone is bugging my me and my wife to see it, but we are still newlyweds so I don't know if it will have the same effect on us as it does the in-laws! However, I have heard that men who never cry at movies are bawling over this one, so I'm curious. . .

This did just come out not too long ago. It was a decent movie, but I don't see this being good enough to spend full Blu-Ray price.

When I have been exposed to "Christian" media, be it books, film, television or music, it always strikes me as just kind of toothless and lame. Since I'm not a religious person any sort of message just feels hammered in there and usually not very organic. I always wonder if these materials actually get judged fairly on their own quality merits or if they get graded on the god curve.

well to christians it gets graded by the "god curve", but the fact is, it is not "Filmmakers making Christian Movies" its "Christians trying to make Christian Movies". I understand that they want to get the message out there but if they think they can make a movie and get a LOT of people to watch it, they're gonna need some real filmmakers to step in...sayy.... mel gibson? Its really a let down to see it happen over and over, seeing crappy movies come from Christians, it really gives us a bad name, as if we have no sense of creativity or interesting aspects, which has really got me to want to make a so-called "Christian movie" to show people that we can make good movies. Mel Gibson's prob done the most so far...

What about the Narnia movies? I'm surprised that they didn't try to stamp out all of the Christian themes in those. My ex-fiancee said those movies did more for her faith than Mel's movie.

I'm hoping for this on Bluray for sure...

Also to clear some things up about how it was shot. It was filmed with a Panasonic Varicam just like Facing the Giants. The Varicam is a 720p camera yes...but it has an uncompressed out.

What they did is using LOTS of storage and a MacPro, tethered the camera to the computer at all times capturing the footage into Final Cut Pro as Prorez 422 1080p. So the upconvert was done by the codec as the footage was shot on set, and Prorez is a high bitrate codec. If you want to get an idea go watch the apple trailers 1080 trailer of the film. The film kinda looks blown up but not as bad as you might think. The film was mastered in 1080, not 720. Just making that clear.

Fireproof will be one the first really really big DVD sellers of 2009, mark my words. Pre-orders are already through the roof on all Christian websites. I think Sony might find Fireproof might be one of their first good selling Christian Bluray releases...excluding the big budget films like Narnia with Christian themes. Could be a good risk to take on their part...I know I'll buy it.

I was in a Christian bookstore yesterday, and I saw a sign for Fireproof saying 'I think' the dvd comes out February. I stress I think.

There is a place-holder on Amazon (US) for Fireproof on Blu-ray now. Sadly, there still isn't one on the UK Amazon site yet.
