Linux and .mkv? - Blu-ray Forum

If I put linux on the PS3 will it let me play .mkv?

you can play mkv without installing linux. there was a thread a few weeks ago. Basically PS3 can read vob files. All you need is the program mkv2vob. Download that , select your source and destination files and press OKay. Wait a few mins and Voila! You can now play that mkv file. Good luck !

Now if you want to play mkv under linux anyway, i'll let someone up step up and answer you.

Yeah, I know you can use mkv2vob but my problem is that I have to convert it into three parts because the PS3 won't read NTFS format. I would like to save the time of converting and chopping into three parts and just go direct .mkv if Linux will allow it.

You could stream/copy the mkv2vob file if you have a networked PC with

TVersity: http://tversity.com/home/

or setup some kind of File server to copy files to the PS3 through the browser.
