Angry Question from the States to the UK - RE: "Scroll-bar"

Hi there-
I'm a US consumer with a question for you UK consumers...

I love re-watching my favorite movies on Blu-ray... But sometimes I just want to scroll thru movies and go to my favorite scenes. But I find it increasingly jarring when the absurd "time-run/scroll-bar" POPS UP when ever you hit the SCAN button. - Early Warner Bros, Paramount, Columbia & I think Disney releases didn't have this function built into it... But NOW it seems they ALL do.

The WORST offender is Nightmare Before Xmas. - A giant graphic pops up, in ADDITION to the hideous scroll-bar, whenever you try to scan.

Recently purchased the "Godfather Trilogy", "Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy", "Spider-man Trilogy", "Clear and Present Danger", "The Thing", "Batman Begins", "V for Vendetta"... ALL with the dreaded scroll-bar built in, which none of my earlier discs have... Just clean, smooth graphic-less scanning.

My question is: Are Blu-Ray's authored the same in the UK? - Can anyone out there tell me if they get the same annoying "scroll-bar" at the bottom when scanning thru any of these titles? (Especially curious about "Nightmare"). - If so... then I'll start spending the extra $ to order from Amazon.UK INSTEAD.

I ask because I bought the "Beowulf" UK edition, which came out a couple months before the US release - And there was NO scroll-bar on that one.

Thanks in advance for any feedback on this issue.

Well Beowulf didn't because its a Warner title over here and most Warner titles don't have the bar (they didn't at the time Beowulf was authored).

As a rule, Warner titles in the UK are the same discs as the US release, Universal appear to be the same discs as the US to date and I suspect Paramount do too (I'm basing this Paramount conclusion on their UK HD DVD releases which were all US discs).

Fox appear to do general UK discs (sometimes English is the only soundtrack) but they have the same interface as the US discs apart from sometimes loosing the main menu screen.

I can't recall a bar on a Disney disc to date, but I don't often fast forward or reverse.

So when it comes to the big studios, unless the distribution rights are split, the UK discs are most likely to be the same as the US disc, either physically or functionally. I suspect the authoring for the regional discs is still done by the same people who do the US authoring. Didn't Van Ling point out he had to write the production notes and chapter descriptions for Independence Day in dozens of languages over several masters at one point?

It appears your best bet is for movies where the rights are owned by smaller studios in Europe - such as ITV holding the UK rights to Shawshank or EiV holding the rights to most New Line movies over here.

I've not seen a Warner disc with the bar pop-up. If this is now being implemented, does it mean Warner are not allowing bookmarks?

Yeah, I realize that Beowulf was a Warner Bros (International) release over there, whereas it was Paramount (Domestically) in the states. But that's kinda one of my points... Certain titles are going to fall under different authoring rules & styles... depending on the studio handling it.

As I said before, The last two Warner Bros titles I bought: "Batman Begins" & "V for Vendetta", BOTH now incorporate the dreaded scroll-bar.

I was just interested in knowing if anyone would be interested in checking their UK versions of the titles I listed above, to verify whether or not they also had the scroll-bar.

Thanks!

But is this only available with profile 1.1 or 2.0 players? Because I don't remember encountering this my Panasonic BD10A, which is a profile 1.0 player. I could be mistaken, since I rarely fast forward anything.
