Great article. I've bookmarked it, in case some guys like to bring up the enormous costs needed to produce BDs.

Why does the AACS team require $3000 for "administrative" purposes? Just what tasks does the AACS perform for that payment that costs them so much?

Why are the other AACS fees also so high?

One good thing is that Regional Playback Control requires a fee of $3000 a year. I think AACS should charge at least $300,000 a month for this

Those are all lies, BD50 is impossible, nay science fiction, the ones in your collection are a figment of your imagination.

Anyway, even if they are real they cost $200 each to make, Sony subsidise the rest!

Well the costs is actually quite low, but Sony will have to subsidise the format forever and it will never be profitable so no one other than Sony and Cinram (who are subsidised by Sony) will ever get BD50.

Did I miss any!

Don't forget, one tiny scratch and that $200 disk is completely unplayable and useless. (and you can scratch them just by looking at them).

not really but a bit on a tangent
before you can replicate you need a replication master. And

- the BD replication master is unaffordable expensive that you will never see anything but the biggest titles from the big studios

and after they are replicated and in stores

- BDs will cost way over 100$ to buy due to replication cost

Note: and those where for BD25

It's also cool to see the BD data storage and archiving jukeboxes as being announced. Also the portable BD player!
