UPDATE: Season 5 was greenlit!

UPDATE #2: Season 5 Begins on December 6th 2010, according to their facebook page.

Actor Zaib Shaikh, who plays the role of imam Amaar Rashid on Little Mosque on the Prairie, credits timing, and the wisdom of the powers-that-be at CBC, with a large part of the show's success, set to begin production this summer on its fifth season.

"I think the folks at CBC were very smart when they took ( Little Mosque) on," said Shaikh in a recent interview.

"It was a post 9/11 world, at a time when there was a growing curiosity about the Muslim culture, and at a time when fear had turned to fascination."

FILMING UNDERWAY:

Good news for those who were left wanting more of this little Canadian series.
It has gone into production for series 5...

"The fifth season, which will debut the first of 13 episodes sometime in January after a special stand-alone Christmas special in December, features all the original characters from the first season. Carlo Rota, who had to bow out of the second half of last season due to scheduling conflicts, will return for a limited number of episodes, as will Derek McGrath as Reverend Magee in the second half of the season."

Good that Carlo is returning - it made a big difference him not being there - but I guess Stargate Universe is a bigger gig for him - as I saw him bit-parting there!

I first discovered this show near the end of the second season. Such a wonderful show.

Anyone else seen it?

The only actor in it that the average American may recognize is Carlo Rota, who plays Morris O'Brien on 24 (Chloe's Ex)

WOW, just WOW

I'm speachless

Not because i have seen something amazing but because it's so darn weird & unusual to see such a title for a show & actually work with that sort of religious theme in a country that well, isn't used to that type of theme

ALSO, terrible amount of what i call islamophobia going round post 9/11 through media covnveying negative programs since, so nice to see a theme like this with a western muslim slant showing muslims are just like you. Humans

Yeah, I'll admit when I first heard the name I was kinda like "oh, whatever" thinking it was ....well, not sure what it was.

But then I finally watched it and it was really funny. It's a very light hearted and family type show that everyone can watch.

It doesn't beat you over the head with the religious stuff, and it's kinda funny. There's some stuff in there that I could understand if a Christian (as I am) got upset over it, but it's really not that serious. There's no sharpness to the light jabs that get sent to everyone that it's just hard to be mad about it.

A third of the way through the fourth season now. This will probably be the final season as I was surprised that it got this far.

Excellent show though. I encourage everyone to check this show out if you can. Go to Youtube and there's entire episodes uploaded (in two or three parts).

Such a great and funny show.

supposedly there's going to be an American remake which I'm dreading. It's going to probably dumb it down and make a bunch of innuendo jokes and whatnot. Not that I'm against innuendo, btw. I LOVE innuendo, just not for this.

ah was he? I'm not a fan of horror movies, so I never ..um...saw Saw V (or any of them after 2).

He was in White Collar this season. Episode 2 I believe.

The show's pretty funny as well. I love the little digs they take at the show and the low ratings.

They put one of the ultra conservative Muslims on the radio, and the "Rush Limbaugh" type regular host is jealous and yells to the Station Manager "You know, a Muslim show is ratings poison, I tell you!"

I been seeing Rota everywhere this tv season, first it was Castle, White Collar and Stargate Universe, than CSI: NY. He's making the rounds, he should star on something that would give him more celebrity, i have never heard of this show, and i'm pretty familiar with just about everything that airs currently whether i watch it or not.

well it's a Canadian show that doesn't air here in the states.

For my age group, he's definitely known as Yakavetta, cause 24, well nobody under 30 watches it and enjoys it lol, but everybody loves Boondock Saints.

You tried ebay? Usually can find anything there. I used to import movies all the time from other regions but we share the same region with those canucks, so i'd image that would make it easier.

oh I can get it from Amazon.CA, but March has kicked me in the balls with purchases, so I'd love to find someone to trade with.

I just was watching the extras on Season 1 DVD, and in an interview with Sitara Hewitt (pics below) used to be a backup dancer for hip hop artist Foxy Brown. lol. Had no idea!
