That is what I would recommend. Pitch black with the exception of bias lighting behind the display (unless it is a projected screen).

maybe you should calibrate your tv with the lighting condition you want to view it in.

ideally you want back lighting. only when you're projecting like a movie theater is what they were referring to.

On my lcd it does seem to look better with the lights on, the blacks and color look more rich for some reason and when I turn the lights off the blacks seem a little more grey, I think it's because seein' real actual black to the blacks on the tv makes it look that way, there's my opinion and preference.

Despite furiously shaking my computer monitor....... I can't make sense of this statement

Front projection is the LAST place you want light from any source other than the projector bulb itself...... (I even toyed with the idea of blacklights, to make the black levels stand out more, but even that doesn't work)

it makes sense if you read what the op was asking. he wanted to know if he should be using back lighting with his rear projection tv. which was in response to clark kent's statement about not using back lighting with projection screens. i was explaining the difference between his projection and front projection.

i obviously do not think you should shine a light on a screen you are trying to project an image on.

there's a period that separates my statements. i can see how that is confusing. also he states his rear pro tv in the subject of his post

IMO it depends on the room size. but having some small light in back of set or in the corner of room may help with eye strain. I was thinking about getting those rope lights they are now selling for xmas if they can be set not to blink. they are kinda like the ones seen in movie theaters.
