Default SD card reader on PS3

I am thinking about buying the Panasonic HD camcorder (it records to SD or SDHC cards) because I wanted to be able to just pull the card out and stick it in my PS3 and watch home videos without having to go through the computer. However, I believe the SD card reader on the PS3 is a standard SD card reader and so won't read SDHC cards. Is there any reason why a software/firmware fix can't be used to allow the SD reader to also be able to read SDHC. It's my understanding that the main different between SD and SDHC is the file structure, which sounds like a software/firmware issue not a hardware issue.

What are your thoughts

From a San Disk's page, I gather that SDHC is incompatible with SD. It may be that even a firmware upgrade will not allow you to read SDHC right off the camera as the slot might be different.

Even if what you said is true - that the difference is in the file structure - that means opening it using a computer, fixing the file structure and then pushing it in the slot. That's not what you'd want to do anyway.

San Disk does have a SDHC USB card reader. You can use that device to plug your SDHC into and then use a USB port on the PS3 to view your video.
