From quick conversations, this isn't a "Ghibli movie" in the sense of Howl's or Mononoke, but it's perfect for HD. Look at some of the pics to see why the higher resolution will make this look stunning.

Whatever this site is saying, i'm guessing something about a new release for whatever that is pictured there in the article, it can only mean good news for anime/animation fans.

Hopefully Disney follws suit quickly, and we get some of the older/current stuff as soon as possible.

My Japanaese isn't that great, but according to the part of the article you pointed out in babelfish, the presenter was making a reference to the BCN rankings that showed BD players accounted for 95% of the hi-def players sold in February. Not including the million units of PS3 that shipped out.

Possibly making the choice of a high definition format a bit easier for some, a new article at Watch Impress talks about Ghibli bringing the title Iblard Jikan out on Blu-ray. Classified as an OVA though some contention exists about what the show actually is, it isn't what's considered an actual Ghibli movie but it is a very stylized and beautiful looking piece. With distribution of Ghibli's movies done by Buena Vista Japan who is exclusively on the Blu-ray side, this is a potential first bow of Ghibli titles in high definition home media.

Now that's the killer figure. It looks like the deathbed for HD-DVD in Japan appears to be 3-6 months ahead of schedule . For sure, it's life-support will END within this year :P

The report states that the sales of players have been 95% BD, and 5% HD DVD. It goes on to say that this figure does not include the million PS3s.

A translator on my forums talked about this (not word for word, just a summary of a section)

As far as what the thing actually is, it says the artist selected 63 locations within the world his paintings depict, and Ghibli animators brought them to life digitally. Trees and water move, trains run past, etc. The camera is not static either, moving through the landscape depicted and exploring it. There are also 2D characters added, which make the viewer feel like they are exploring the world.
It calls itself a Video Artbook.

This is awesome, the first step from Ghibli into the BD realm! I can't wait to buy their whole collection on BD.
