Here is a link to an article on the PS3 that only gives the videogame system a C rating.
http://www.edn.com/blog/400000040/post/1680007368.html?nid=2436&rid=885932481 Of course I disagree with this negative article on the PS3. Many mainstream consumer video magazines have given the PS3 high 90’s ratings. The PS3 has seen overall value ratings of 97% which is hard for any consumer product to achieve. This EDN article I do not agree with. If one buys a X-box with the HD-DVD add on drive it will cost exactly the same price as a Sony PS3 machine. The DVD format for dual layer discs only holds 8.5 GB. Some of the HDTV games for the PS3 are around 16GB. Sony either had to place a HD-DVD drive or BLU-RAY drive in its machine since a DVD-ROM drive does not hold enough space for games. BLU-RAY can hold 10GB more per layer and 20GB more per dual layer then HD-DVD. Sony decided to go with a built in BLU-RAY player which is popular in Japan versus the HD-DVD player. BLU-RAY is technically better. Another thing I am sick of hearing is how the Sony PS3 has a large inventory of unsold machines that are not selling. There are many areas of the country that run out of stock on Sony PS3 machines. So far the area I live in I have not seen a machine on the shelf (I have not been hunting for one either). Since my local Best Buy is out of stock on PS3 I can order one online on Best Buy website which claims they have them in stock in the warehouse for direct shipping. I have heard reports from people that some stores get like a thousand or a few hundred PS3 and they are sold in a few days. Sony is so busy trying to get PS3 machines shipped to retail stores that they have not shipped machines to some large distributors. I know this one large distributor that carriers many Sony products and they have been trying to get a Sony Playstation 3 in stock since November 2006 and they have not received one Playstation 3 from Sony yet. This same distributor has 1,572 PS3 Wireless controllers currently in stock and 257 PS3 remote controls but has so far never received any PS3 machines. Now if you want an X-box HD-DVD addon device they have 1,333 of these devices currently in stock. Sony appears to be shipping their product to the largest retail stores first like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc. Once the demand starts to fall on the Sony PS3 then distributors should start seeing machines also. Perhaps by May or sooner it will be easier to get a Sony PS3 machine. |
