Default What's a good TrueHD/DTSHD receiver?

I am intersted in upgrading from my Denon receiver that does not decode the newer HD sound formats. I won't be upgrading from a 5.1 to a 6.1or 7.1 setup though. Question is what is a good receiver to get to match up to my Paradigm Monitor series speakes. The receiver doesn't need monster power as my Denon right now does about 80 watts per channel I think.

Any brands that are better than others? I really like the clean look of the Yamaha receivers. Thanks.

everyone has their favorite brands. you should just try to find reviews of receivers that you're interested in. it really has to do with your budget. personally i'm an onkyo fan. but that's only because i'm too poor to even research any of the higher end models.

If you're into Denon - get the 3808 or the Marantz SR-7002. Very safe choices - especially with Paradigm speakers.

I completely agree. Almost all receivers are far too girly and childish to have in any home. Let alone bone crusher's

It all depends on on how much money you want to spend. Yamaha is a good brand. So is Denon, Marantz, Pioneer Elite, Sony ES, Onkyo, Harman/Kardon, Integra, etc., etc., etc. Read the reviews.

Since you like the Yamaha's, have a look at the one in my signature.

It's a Yamaha HTR-6190B, 7.1, 130watts rms x 7, 4 HDMI Inputs, 1 HDMI output. Has all of the Codecs.

The equivalent in their RX-V line is the RX-V1800 and can be had for about $1,000 if you look for a deal. The list on mine was $1,499, but I picked it up at Future Shop last year for $1,099. The price I'm sure has come down.

Yamaha receivers are excellent also - try the 1800. I have the 663 because I only use it as a pre/pro - I don't use the amplification in it at all - seperate amps.

I've been selling high-end home theater equipment for about thirteen years now, and that being said, I've bought receivers than most. (I change every two or three years usually.) 6 months ago I got the Pioneer Elite VSX-92 and it is by far the best receiver I've ever owned. Highly recommended. Give it a look at least.
