Hello. I have a ps3 thats been updated to the latest firmware. I watched Iron Man and Indiana Jones. On these two widescreen flicks I notice a white line between the movie and the black areas of the screen, top and bottom of image. Do you know if this has something to do in one of the PS3 settings? I have a 46 Sony LCD. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure to be honest, but I see that no one's helped you yet so here's a better idea of what the update was, at least...

Hi,
I've been following this thread for a while and am still trying to get to the bottom of this issue. I've seen this on many sets in showrooms both running HDMI and standard definition. I’ve scanned the web and can only find an occasional mention of this issue. The lines are visible on a 2.35:1 aspect ratio films on both Blue Ray (PS3 HDMI) and broadcast signals from SKY (SD SCART), I’ve not tested on other sources though. I would estimate about 2-3 scan lines in to the picture at the top and the bottom of the actual image. They appear as lines of increased brightness (not pure white). These are NOT visible on full screen or zoom and always follow the top of the image (ie not fixed on the display panel). They also are not present when the adjacent picture area is dark/black. My thoughts are this is either an artefact present in compression, or part of the picture (non visible area) is bleeding through (text/close caption?). Or perhaps just something inserted in the image for some strange technical reason. Any how I've seen this on CRT, Plasma and LCD it seems to be a standard artefact on DVD, Blue Ray and broadcast. I'm still at a loss to explain the technical reasons for this but I'm sure there must be one. I'd very much like to hear from anyone who can explain this. Regards Martin |
