Default Hirai: Sony cannot allow Nintendo to run off...

Quote:
The thing that I did when I took over last year was to boast the appeal of games themselves... The main premise of the PS3 is video games. That's the absolutely most important thing that we cannot lose sight of.

Hirai goes on to say by putting priority numero uno on games that that's how Sony will expand its position in the marketplace. And about Nintendo, Hirai said, "We cannot allow Nintendo run off alone."

Prelude to a price cut?

Who knows. All I know is that the only way Sony can even think about competing with Nintendo for supremacy is price. Nintendo don't exactly have the strongest game line up, but they are still beating the crap out of Sony in the marketplace.

Price cut is out of the question. PS3 will make their own Wii remote.

At this point, I'm willing to concede that Nintendo has won the casual gamer market. Its the battle with Microsoft that needs to be won at this point.

Neither does Sony. Atleast for a Japanese audience.

LBP will do a lot to improve the PS3s image as far as the casual market is concerned. I think some more Ratchet and/or Jak games would help.

They need to get home out, at the very least so they can get those teams working on games.

And I still say they need a $50 price cut atleast.

i dont know if its my love for platformers or not, but man it needs more.

and yes..they need to get their teams working on games as soon as they can

as for 50 bucks, i doubt that'd be enough to really move any systems, but they really do need to get that price lower

I'm pretty sure Sony will not drop the price this year. While they can not beat the Wii in the marketplace, they do have the Blu-ray advantage. While they are starting to outsell MS, they need to do spmethng to make up for the loss of casual gamers that the Wii took over.

see..thats exactly the problem. the ps3 doesn't have this or it doesn't have that, but its got blu-ray, so that makes it ok.

clearly they need to focus on the ps3 for what it is, a game machine.

How about PS3 Fit?

I think Sony needs to pick 1 franchise (perhaps LBP), get behind it and release the heck out of that franchise. Just like Nintendo has done with Mario. Think about it. People still buy Nintendo stuff thinking about Mario and not about system specs and all that stuff.

LBP FTW!

The PS3 has the best exclusive library. What they need is a price cut ASAP and no I'm not talking about a new sku with more stuff or bigger HDD at the same price point but a lower entry point. $299 would move an insane amount of units.

299$ is nuts for the ps3 all though it would work seems unrealistic. Exclusives alone wont beat the xbox we already lost final fantasy and i also heard tekken is gone now =[

Agreed besides Sony has the tools in place already to push casual gaming with the ps eye and sixaxis they just need to dedicate more resources to devoloping those. The ps Eye definitely has loads of potential if they ever start developing games for it.

In My OPINION At this point the Recession being the way it is, i do think Sony will indeed reduce the Price for this fall A price reduction of what is left in the supply chain of the 40 GB to $299.00 until all stock is gone. to make way for the new playstation 3 sku.
, Not saying it will happen for 100%, but that would be a sure fire way to sell more Playstation 3's faster.

Both Tekken and Final Fantasy are third party games. They need more 1st party exclusives, as the days of the thrid party exclusive games are all but gone.

The recession being the way it is, Sony can't afford to throw away money in order to sell more consoles.

This works both ways.

At $299, they would move more than an insane amount of units. They could potentially move an insane amount of jobs to the garbage bin. That would be about a billion dollars or more lost between now and spring.

I agree that the PS3 has the best exclusive library this year going forward (plus, best graphics, audio and features).

no doubt. but if they do not Move those units to cover their sale through numbers they stated to share holders, Even though a very conservative number. it could lower their stock price . A temp loss in phaseing out the 40 GB to make way for the New Sku could solve this problem. it did work before
