In the UK its been released by Fox I think. Does that mean its a different encode to the USA release? If so does anybody own it and can they tell me if its worth picking up or not?
Thanks, Richie. Last edited by BigNickUK; 06-28-2019 at 04:58 PM. |

On http://bluray.liesinc.net/ they claim that this Region Coded release is one of those that you can get around the coding by pressing stop and hitting menu. They don't say however what Blu-ray player they did this on.
I am not brave or rich enough to try this out however, but I would love to hear it works for others. I love this movie but haven't bought the US release in the hopes that a better encode would come out at some point. UPDATE: I have seen it noted on some other Blu-ray sites that this trick only works on a select few Blu-ray stand-alones. Last edited by Vendetta-akk; 10-19-2008 at 11:09 PM. |

Bump.. this Blu-ray is available on Amazon for very cheap indeed. BOGOF with it at £7.78 in conjunction with a £8.98 title comes out to £4.49.
Initially I was still going to steer well clear of it - however, this thread has given me some hope. The offer is going to end in the next three hours, so if someone could respond quickly it'd be brilliant. Is the transfer passable? I know it's been said in here that it's far better than the USA release but that seems to have been rated among the lowest of the low.. and the Amazon reviews (I know they're not very credible) are rating this one just as low apparently. http://www.amazon.co.uk/House-Flying-Daggers-Blu-ray-Zhang/dp/B001E8V6G4/ref=br_lf_m_1000336033_1_6_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&pf_rd _p=472308713&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000336033&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL 5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1298RX7M9967C943HQ2G I'd just appreciate some peace of mind from someone who owns it / has seen this UK transfer.. ![]() ![]() I'm guessing this new steelbook is just a repackaging of the same horrendous transfer? This is one of the prettiest movies I've ever seen and it is really disappointing how bad the blurays have all looked. I got the korean version just for the uncensored finale, but it looks just as bad as all the other ones out there...would love an upgrade at some point. EDIT: My bad, there was a thread in the steelbook forum, it's the same horrible transfer. Oh well, the packaging looks cool at least. Last edited by cakefactory; 05-13-2014 at 03:05 AM. |
