Default DVD Empire Myth Exposed

DVD Empire Myth Exposed

Quote:
A number of folks were making noise about HD-DVD outselling Blu-ray at DVD Empire in March. Some even stated that DVD Empire was a trend leader and we should expect to see similar results going forward with the other sales tracking services. So much for that myth:

Good stuff - When the Amazon 50% sale started a lot of hd-duders claimed that this just showed how shallow the buying base for BD was because hd-dud was now beating it on DVD empire...

Well now look at those figures! March BD sales on DVD Empire are ahead of Feb and Jan. More HD-DUD fanbopis bs...

I have always wondered about that.

Perhaps someone should ask them...

I think they are listing a bunch of small/independent studios which have promised releases on HD DVD/BD. As HD DVD is more approachable for independents for now, they will have a higher number. Really, where it counts (the big seven) BD leads.

And how many independents release their films on BD? I still think BD has more studios.

And it is the Big 7 which potential customers will see. The very notion that a niche market like independent releases can decide a winner is outright lunacy. But, I guess the HD DVD camp are grasping at whatever straws they can nowdays.

Like how do you determine the SI percentages on DVD Empire? Add up the 2006 + 2007 percentages, of course. That number has HD DVD still ahead, and therefore must be the real status of the overall war.

OK, put the disc case down, we don't want anyone getting hurt here.

They still have the number of upcoming HD DVD prereleases wrong after 3 months. DVDEmpire's been saying for months 110+ while they only have about 55 Pre-releases listed (as you can see on page 4 and page 5) so basically they're doubling their true number. Must be some kind of typo but it's very misleading.

DVDEmpire.com seems to get a few things wrong. Not that I hate them or wont shop there, but back in the day they were very opinionated, saying how bad Blu-Ray was and how there's no way it would ever win a format war and how the prices are better for HD-DVD etc... But there's also some facts they get messed up from time to time too, such as saying Warner's new format was called "TrueHD"... well no, that's a sound format. Also prices they got screwed up saying how it's cheaper to by a 360 with an HD-DVD add on than it is to buy a PS3... And the already mentioned "pre-order" numbers for HD-DVD and studio support for HD-DVD... I think they just make small errors from time to time.
