Banned vs Suspended - Blu-ray Forum

Curious as to what the differences between each are, and I don't mean permanent vs temporary. There are folks that are "banned" for a period of time that is not permanent. When banned, are certain aspects of the forum made unavailable to the offender versus being suspended? Can anyone speak from personal experience? A couple months ago, I was given a 2-day vacation, and during that time I was not able to view the Off-topic forum. I can't remember now if I was technically "banned" or "suspended" for those two days. I'm thinking it was banned, which made the OT forum off-limits to me.

i wasn't aware of anyone being banned and was able to come back. but i imagine if thats the case, its just a temporary thing so they can't even look at the forum. i know when i was suspended, i couldn't even pm, but i was able to see the whole forum.

i guess in extreme cases, people are banned from doing anything on the site for a set amount of time vs being banned permanently

Neither is usually permanent, but bannings are much longer than suspensions.

Not necessarily. I know of one individual who has been "banned" for one week, and another who has been "suspended" for one month. There's a difference between the two, though I don't know what that is.

banned= no access(cant see anything but banned message), usually permanant but can have a set time frame
suspended= limited access to forum(unable to see off topic), can still receive pms and of course you cant post.

what members? like members on this site in general? bannings can be any amount of time deemed appropriate by the mods. 10 days, 20, permanent, etc. sometimes warnings are given out, sometimes not depending on the situation.

ah, well then see above post. there is no set amount of time someone is banned, varies by situation.

people can be banned and then unbanned. i believe the terms are interchangeable, but suspensions are generally not as serious as bannings. i'm sure a mod will come in here eventually and clarify.

I've had 'em all. And their not fun. That's why i'm trying to clean up my act a little. If you follow the following guide lines you should be safe from suspension or even worse, being banned.

1) If someone says something that you completly disagree with and you just want to explode, take a deep breath, leave that thread and come back to it later when your cooled down.

2) Try not to engage in any political talk on these threads or you are automaticaly putting yourself at risk for suspension.

3) Don't thread crap. If you disagree explain why. Don't just randomly say that it's a horrible movie/tv show/game.

4) Don't personnaly attach anyone. Ever. No matter what. Never go after some one personally because honestly, you don't know enogh about then to come to any legitamate conclusion. Expessially don't go after someone because they are gay, lesbian, a diffrent race or anything like that.

5) Don't swear. It's not needed.

6) No porn or sex talk or anything like that. You can say that you think a guy/girl is "hot" or what ever but don't go over board. You don't know the ages of the people on this site and I beat some of them are minors.

If you follow those rules you should be fine.
