Rumor: Sony working on rewards system for Trophy-getters

This is interesting and somewhat bizarre at the same time. According to the US Official PlayStation Magazine (via CVG), Sony might be working on a rewards system for Trophy-hunters. The concept here involves getting another type of reward for obtaining the most difficult Trophies.

Apparently, earning a shiny graphic of a platinum Trophy isn't enough of an accolade; there has to be more. US OPM suggests that the new rewards could be anything from early beta access, to free wallpapers and themes. As of right now, this is still a rumor. Take it with a grain of salt. If this does prove to be true, then Trophy grabbing seems to be an even more lucrative feature.

Same here They could make a $1,000 cash reward and I would still never get the platinum trophy for WipEout HD

yup, i'm with you. i dont think i'll ever get the WipEout plat. and the only other trophy game i got is Warhawk, so no dice there either. I was thinking of getting Uncharted just to get the plat.

It's not Zico, I think I can get that one. It's the 1st place on all 16 phantom-elite racebox races and getting to zone 75 that are currently killing me!

Back to the original post, I keep seeing free wallpapers and stuff.... when/ why would they start charging for wallpapers? They won't make any money since they have already given us the tools to make our own.

Precisely. I swear i tried like 200 times already and cant even come close.

yeah, the Zone ones seem pretty difficult.

havn't tried to hard yet, but my brother did his 99 laps on Anulpha Pass and knew the correct points to barrell roll and could not get Zico.

I'd me more interested in trying for trophies if I knew it would get me something beyond the satisfaction of gaining a trophy. I don't care if it is in-game, like how Uncharted unlocks cheats and costumes (though it did this prior to the trophy patch), or if I can use trophies as a form of currency in the Playstation Store. Or maybe make them game specific, like getting the platinum trophy in Warhawk would allow you to get the next expansion pack for free.

if it was money, which its not, those prices are way to high, thats like 10 bucks/game.

I've been told exclusive stuff like what qore does..

Speculation:

Maybe they could do like the RLS does and trade in for another game, tshirt, game swag, etc...

For me just to have acheive 100% in a game, I have a rewarded feeling. But if they add redeem price on that it would be great!

I like the fact that they're not "giving" movies like XBOX does, as they are very low quality, DVDs are more like Divx+ and HD movies are 720p with DVD bitrates. But, even if I'm quite good at some games, I may never get a platinum (not even a gold) as I like playing for fun and for numerous hours.

I always felt the "get 10 headshots in a row" or "get the fastest time on this race" or "collect XXX coins" to be un-fun. In Tomb raider, for example, I could find the way out of a stage, then wander for long minutes just to have fun exploring and end the stage another way. Being free of playing like I want is what I like, so the only trophy I would like to get is "played The Darkness for 5 hours straight or 30 hours total" or "finished Suikoden 6 with the 108 characters found".

theres lots of trophies like that.

i think its good when a game balances games you get from jsut playing through the game with things you kind of have to go out of your way to do 50:50.

trophies can add a lot of gameplay to the game.
