Pretty sweet list, my favorite was Ape Escape!

Wow, I was thinking Final Fantasy VII and Parappa the Rapper when I first read the title of the thread and they were on there. Brought back some great memories! I was surprised to see FF Tactics on there, its one of my favorite games but I don't know if it really defined the history of PSone. I think the GTA 3 and Vice City should have been more than just honorable mentions.

Interesting to see so many RPGs on there, the golden years.

If you're talking about games that defined the history of the ps1, MGS along with FF VII (as much as I hate FF) are at the top of the list.

Not only do I have the FFVII soundtrack on my iPod for sentimentality's sake, I was determined to have the Gold Saucer theme playing on my way to a Disney World trip...

(Right next to the "Surfin' Chocobo" theme, even though I couldn't name a single piece of music off of FFX-2 if you paid me.)

The original PS is still my favorite system to this day. I can still remember the first time I played Resident Evil. It was unlike any gaming experience prior. It's still one of the best of the series IMO....along with RE2.

The one game that I got completely immersed in on the PSX was "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night". I played that game for hours on end, seven days a week, for probably a year or more. After beating it, I just kept playing, over and over...it was like an addiction. Eventually, I bailed on it, because I couldn't get all the imagery out of my mind. I was consistently thinking of things like demons, spells, vampires, skeletons, satanic sorcerers....my very being got messed up pretty bad. The last game I played in the series was "Harmony of Dissonance" for the GBA, and I quit cold turkey after that.

You should download Castlevania: Harmony of Despair for the PS3 from the PSN. It has a lot of nods to Symphony of the Night.

No, thanks. Giving up the "Castlevania" franchise was definitely a good choice, because my thoughts and feelings had been so heavily bound to what I saw, that barely an hour or so passed without me obsessing over it. I haven't played any more of the series, and I'm more than happy to leave it alone.

I never knew SF alpha 3 rated so highly on the PS1. Thats incredible considering the ram issues the PS1 had. Castlevania is high on my list also.

But my all time favourite was G-Darius. The mechanics of hunting enemies with capture balls as well as multiple pathways gave this so much replay value.

Mind you I had been an avid fan of the franchise since 93 with "Sagaia" on Sega's Master System.

My other favourites and I think higher in the definition list would be Wipeout, Colony Wars and G-Police, highly polished Psygnosis titles.

----------------

I wish the DreamCast hung around for a while longer, the anticipation of a powerful Playstation 2 killed this one I think.

I ADORED Soul Calibre on Dreamcast, this was perfection in artistry and game mechanics.

GTA III and Vice City were on the PS2. The GTAs referred to in the article are the top down GTAs like GTA, GTA II and London 1969.

Ah, cool list! I was hoping to see Tomb Raider on there. I love those games, too bad the newest trilogy wasn't that good in comparison to the playstation era...Much like the newer Resident Evil games, or the recent Silent Hill games, or...In fact, the only series I can think of which has been completely consistant in terms of being a great game is Metal Gear Solid, out of the ones I've played, anyway.

When I think of the PlayStation the games that come to mind are:
- Jumping Flash!
- WipeOut
- Ridge Racer
- Tomb Raider
- Resident Evil
- Silent Hill

The first 4 games listed are the ones I bought when I first purchased my PS1. I recall going to KB Toy store during Christmas time. I do believe I finished all of those games also. Great memories!

No one has mentioned Metal Gear Solid? It practically redefined the action/stealth genre in the industry and helped make games more cinematic!
