More Madden AI BS - Blu-ray Forum

Here's the rundown of a game I just played:

Losing 21-20 with less than 2:30 to play in the 4th. For the last 4 minutes, I was marching up the field, preparing to score a TD with less than 2 left. I'm at the 15, 3rd and 1, and I decide to do a QB sneak. I sneak, and the QB fumbles the ball, DEF recovers. I challenge, and the replay SHOWS the QB was down before the ball came out, but the call stands (1st WTF).

The other team starts marching up the field. Around their 45 yard line, 3rd and 5, they throw incomplete (the receiver dropped it). However, there's a flag for OFFSIDES on ME! I watched the replay 4 times, and not ONE of my players was offsides/lined up in the neutral zone (2nd WTF). The next play, they toss a PA bomb, and, of course, their WR beats my corner by about 10 yards for a TD. The 2pt run fails.

At this point, its 26-21, 34 seconds left, I'm at the 20 after a touchback.

First play is no gain (Incomplete), the second play is a run for 7..time out. 3rd and 3, I bomb it out and get to the 13...timeout. 4 seconds left. Now, knowing I need a couple options in the end zone, I pick a play where 3 receivers will be in the end zone. Snap the ball, and here's the funniest bit:

WR1 - Supposed to take the right outside post, instead decides to run out of bounds on the side and STAY there even in the end zone.

WR2 - Double covered on left outside post...no go.

WR3 - SUPPOSED to take the slot slant route into the center of the end zone. He has the inside route on the cover, no end zone safety, so this SHOULD be a TD. However (and don't ask me why) he decides to cut STRAIGHT ACROSS at the 2 yard line. Pass to him is complete, but, oh, he's tackled at the 2.

I am starting to hate this game. It seems like its either a blowout of the computer, or its a close loss that is quite fabricated on the AI side.

1) Is Ed Hochuli the ref? You can tell because he has big arms. 2) You should never run the ball when you are on your 20 with 34 seconds left 3) fire your WR coach.

Seriously some of the AI totally sucks but the game is still fun.

Its just simulating real world favoritism and bribing did you pay the refs there millions before you started the game? hmm?

Way to not say anything useful. A video game should have competent AI, end of story. Especially when it comes to simple rules/routes.

in all fairness, Madden is worse than other videogames in terms of idiotic AI, cheap roundabouts in regards to increased difficulties, etc...

The game with the worst AI ever is Mario Strikers Charged.

I just had to vent about the AI. Its pretty ridiculous at times. I was willing to let the QB fumble go, as I figured my D could stop them and be able to get a long FG. But, the fact that my challenge CLEARLY showed that it was a bad call, yet the AI STILL let the call stand is very lame.

Then, with the offsides call...that was just pure BS. This is exacerbated since that call was only the SECOND flag of the game (the first was a false start against me when using a fake hike).

The worst was the route error. Its a game, sure, but I'd expect the WR to run the open route that the play calls for and not change it for no reason OTHER than to make it so the AI wins.

I know its a game, and I can take a fair amount of crap from the AI, but it loses its 'realism' when you get three OBVIOUS AI-compensations, all within seconds of each other.

Luis_A51 is correct in saying that the competency of the AI is important, especially in a game that is supposed to be "true-to-life" (unlike other games like NFL Blitz, etc). If you have an AI that makes things seems 99.8% unbelievable, it ruins the gaming experience.

I had the same problem with Madden on a game I was playing as the Cowboys vs the Cards. I swear I played that game 6 times and all 6 times I lost. Everytime I would reset it to play it again it was different scores. One game it was like 49-47, while there was one where the score was 3-0!

My defense went from not enough good plays to super impossibly hard yet I still lost on a last second 57 yrd field goal, by the same kicker who failed a 15 yarder earlier in the game. WTF?

I finally gave up and sold the game

Any of you guys ever watch Maddennation? I usually catch it every now and then. Some of the games they play it seems like comes down to luck rather than skill.

it's hard to play defense for me with Madden (well at least for me) I've had quarterbacks go 27 out of 29 with 4 TDs and No Ints. Fortunately I played this game so much that I know the AI's defense very well so I know exactly who's going to be open no matter what defense the AI uses against me. Also, I gave up on the QB sneak as he tends to fumble the ball 9 out of 10 times. Use the FB, it's just as effective if not better.

As for the WR, You really have to look at their stats as some can run their routes better than others. THe other factor is your QB as they tends to throw the ball at the wrong spot as well.

DUDE! Never... (and I mean NEVER) go to sudden death in the Striker Cup. It's a guaranteed loss.

Eh I think it's worst on the last 2 minutes of the game their accuracy turns to 100% it happens all the time, once 2 minute warning hits bam all teams just never drop the ball and every pass is completed no way to stopping them.
