I was excited Tuesday to go to Best Buy first thing in the morning to pick up my 2 James Bond sets, when i got home and opened them i was extremely disappointed, here are my reasons why:
1. The fact that the box sets were designed to hold ONLY the titles listed on the cover, i was under the impression the set was going to have the 3 movies individually packed in a blu-ray case inside the box. 2. The fact that the foam core on 2 of the movies was peeled off and damaged making the discs to unfastened easily making them more vulnerable for scratching. I wouldve prefered to spent a little more extra and buy the movies individually. Heres the reason why: we dont know for a fact that the remaining movies from the franchise will be released the same way (also goes for the limited edition tin boxes). What if the studio later decides to release the movied individually in a regular bd box, so lets say you bought the box set or the tin box, by the time you finish the collection then its gonna look ugly with some movies (not chronologically arranged) in a box set and the rest in a regular bd case. It would ve made a difference if for instance, they would ve released ALL THE MOVIES in a box set or several ones as well as all of them in a tin box at once, as they have done it in the past, then you could have your collection in either or version. So now im stock with one of the boxes, i decied not to open the other one so i could exchange it for the regular sets. I think this was a very bad marketing move from Sony-MGM Anyone agrees with me? |

EDIT- This post sounds too bossy... This is just what I would do in your shoes...
Return the one you didn't open. If I'm reading this right the one you did open had damage right? Take that one back and get a un-damaged one. Sell that one on Ebay or here. Try to Think about how you want the stuff packaged before buying it next time. I looked at pix of both types of packaging so I would know what to expect. I want the individual movies more than the box sets for a variety of reasons. (One concern is they keep putting the movies togeather fairly random and slip Casino Royale into one of the box sets making me buy it over again.) But... If someone got me the box sets as a gift.. I would be happy because these are great (fun) movies reagardless of the packaging. Last edited by bhampton; 10-23-2008 at 06:06 PM. |

I picked up the steelbooks, held them, debated on buying them, added up the prices in my head, realized I'd spend $30 more for them (not a dealbreaker) and then decided to get the 3 packs instead.
Would I have preferred they put 3 blu-ray cases inside the packaging? Yes. Was it clear that they hadn't from the packaging at the store? Yes. Is the foam mounting a bit cheeseball? Yes. The first two things you could tell at the store. The final thing you wouldn't know until you got home. Have you seen how they packaged the Matrix? I hate that too but I'll probably end up getting it when it goes on sale. Even with all that, I'm still ok with it. If you don't like them, simply return them. If the packaging is defective you should have no issues in getting your money back. Bottom line, you knew what you were getting when you bought it (with the above mentioned one exception). |

I buy boxsets quite regularly, and I know no two sets are ever the same size or shape or configuration unless they are the same show on another series. Not much point being annoyed, thats what boxsets are, some are built better than others (Like the 49-Disc set of TNG for example).
Not much point worrying about it... If you keep buying the same publisher's boxsets they will match up just fine on the bookshelf... Anyway, It's the films you want to watch, not the boxset cases... right? ![]() |

Did my research, got the steelbooks. I want them all to match in the end, so if the rest don't have steelbooks, I figure it'll be easy to trade them with someone for the normal editions. After all, everyone loves a steelbook.
The other deciding factor is order. I can't see any logical order in this first batch, so I don't want them all sitting with one another once the whole series has been released. I'll keep them in chronological order. Besides, if you look around for sales, buying the individuals ended up being cheaper than buying the box sets! |

Why not just buy some blank Blu ray cases and put the discs in them? I'm sure someone will have some cover art going for them pretty soon. Print it out on a color printer and there you go.

I recall this similar issue with the Die Hard Box Set (4 discs in one case). I don't really regret purchasing the 4 disc set, but about one month later Amazon had a BOGO on the Die Hard movies making the purchase of the 4 disc set seem silly. I don't know if the same thing will happen with the James Bond Collection. I am irritated that the 3 packs are not really in any order with respect to the movies. I want the first three pack to include the first three James Bond, second three pack to include the second three and so on. I will have to think hard about returning these.

I agree with the rest you should have checked, even just a little bit, on these forums. There have been plenty of threads. Pictures had been posted or links provided showing the insides of the sets. Most people were turned off ahead of time by what they looked like and decided to get the individual titles.
And a little further reading (if you are in the West) and you would have seen Fry's has been selling the individual titles for $16.95 each, thereby beating the cost of the sets. Last edited by bluskies; 10-23-2008 at 06:45 PM. |

Just to clarifyu something, the packaging wouldnt have been that bad IF the whole collection was there or if the films were in chronological order, you guys are right I shouldve done more research on the packaging before buying, but i was under the impression that the 3 movies were gonna be individually packed in a bd case each.
IN the case of Matrix and Die Hard, i have both and i like the packaging mainly because they both have the COMPLETE COLLECTION and dont have to worry about them releasing more movies later in different packages. So thats pretty much my point |

Yup, that's the only beef that i have with the boxsets. Otherwise, I really like the packaging.
