Default AARRGH!! Bleeping night mode

After accidentally hitting what I thought was the cinema EQ button on the remote for my Onk605, I had instead hit the “Night Mode” button, only to discover it was on Auto mode. Seems like every time I put in a disc, it switches to auto. I thought once it was turned off, it would stay off until I turned on again.

At least now I know why Iron Man & Transformers sounded lack luster. Playing back the action scenes is like experiencing the movie for the first time.
When I think of all the movies I have watched without hearing all the audio goodness…ugh, it makes my stomach turn.

If the truth be told -- I'd bet everyone on here has mistakenly changed an audio setting and thought "What the !@%* is going on?".

That’s just it, I’m not really a collector but a renter. I would have to re-rent the films, which I guess isn’t such a bad thing, but of course I’ve already seen the movie.

Man, that's too bad. Just chalk it up as a lessoned learned, and move forward with the full audio goodness you deserve. Since you rent, it's probably not worth it to rewatch those movies just for increased dynamic range.

This is becuase you are using an Onkyo reciever. There is nothing wrong with it, it's just that for some reason, Late Night mode defaults to "auto" when receiving a bitstreamed TrueHD track. Mine does it to..... sucks to have to push the late night button at the start of every TrueHD movie

PCM and DTS-MA should have always sounded good though, you should only notice this on TrueHD sources since the manual says it only defaults Late Night mode to auto for TrueHD.

Edit: I hope they fixed this on the *06 models - Can anyone confirm?

I've never suffered this issue with my 606.

When I press late night mode it says "not available". Does that mean it's on?

Late night mode will only be selectable (i.e. Auto/On/Off) when the source is Dolby TrueHD bitstream.
