Default Can Someone Please Explain CAT5 Transimtter/Receivers

My mom is having her house rewired and, the person doing it sent her a list of products that he is planning to install. She doesn't know what they are for and, after looking online at them, I'm not so sure either. She has nothing fancy, just plans to get the new 5LNB dish from Directv, and have two of her TV's Directv boxes installed.

The Products in question are:- CE-Labs CAT5 TX Transmitter and CE-Labs CAT5 HD Receiver.

They appear to pass a signal thru for multiple TV's but, there doesn't seem to be a reason she would need these. Though, from looking, it appears they are the same thing?

I did a bit more research and, can't see why someone would suggest running this for her setup. I think he is trying to take advantage of her not knowing anything technical to make additional money. She really just needs her Dish changed out and her incredibly old Directv boxes updated. Thanks anyway, that is what I'm recommending to her...

It could be OVER supplying. What you need to do is figure out ALL the things that this new installation NEEDS to do now and what your mom WANTS to do in the next 5 years. Then match that wants and needs with the hardware being installed. If they match, then that's what's required. If not, they are over supplying stuff you are never going to use or able to understand how to use.

it looks like they are setting her up for an ultra "clean" install in the living room (or whatever) where the set top box, bluray player, dvd, whatever, is located in the wiring closet, and then sent to the TV over CAT 5. If that's not what she's looking to do, then no, it's probably unnecessary.

She has almost no equipment as she is technology-challenged. All she was looking to do is make sure she is okay when things change over. This guy made up a story about her needing new TV's etc. I finally got her to understand that as she is on a Dish service that she is fine and that he is B.S.ing her. However, having called Directv, they do say she is going to need the newest dish and, should replace her boxes as they are 7 years old or so. That they will do for free, something this guy was trying to charge her for. His list included these Cat 5 boxes that make no sense. He also was estimating 15-20 hours to do the job which is ridiculous as the dish is 5-10 feet from one TV, and then to replace the boxes is a matter of unscrewing a wire and putting a wire back in. At this point, she finally is listening and agreeing that he is trying to rip her off. So something good came from it because it's someone she has been calling out for years and being overcharged by.
