Lightbulb other speakers, home cinema set, or?

hi folks!

can you please advise me?
i have this great Samsung 40" (LE40M87B), witch is full hd and 1080p.

i already had this Sony receiver: STR-DE697
on this receiver i have a Sony subwoofer (SA-WMS345) and a couple of speakers (4x Sony SS-V345) and a centre spreaker (?).... they were a set once, but i am unable ro recall the set's productnumber.

and, i have this (old) Sony DVD player on Scart, DVP-NS355 witch has Digital (coaxial) out.

- i have connected the dvd player using the coaxial to the receiver.
- i have attached the dvd to the tv using scart
- the speakers are attached directly on the receiver

here is my issue;
I am unable to get some good sound;
- when i watch a DVD, the subwoofer 'falls asleep' (you will hear a click), and suddenly wakes up again (another click) when a lot of bass is present.
as you can imagine, this is quite anoying.

- listening to music cd/dvd is very bad. it only uses 2 out of 5 speakers and the quality is bad.

what i want to accomplish;
i want good sound and be able to play blu-ray disks. i want to eliminate the scart (dvd player), and use the maximum of the TV performance (hdmi, 1080p). although, i have a limited budget.

i have seen some reviews on the Samsung HT-X810R. It looks awesome, but i am worried about the 'to loud' bass, and .... as far as i can see it has no input for bluray disks.

What do you all advise/suggest?
thanks in advance!
