Default How many HDMI cables do I need?

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I searched but didn't find the exact answer to my question..

I am setting up my HT currently. How many HDMI cables do I need exactly? I'm a bit confused about this. I have a TV, Satellite receiver, BD player, Surround Sound receiver.

I think I need 4? One from the TV to the Satellite receiver- from the TV to the BD player- from the BD player to the surround sound receiver- one from Satellite receiver to the Surround Sound receiver.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

BD Player------->Receiver---------->TV
Satellite-------->Receiver

That would be three.

If you want to be able to watch TV from the dish without the receiver being on then I would still get three hdmi cables from monoprice.com, sending the satellite to the tv and then connect the audio from either the tv or the satellite to the receiver by an optical cable.

It will depend on how you want to set up the system and the number of HDMI outputs that you have from the Satellite Receiver and/or Component outputs from the Satellite receiver along with the Toslink or coaxial for the audio from the HD Receiver.

If you follow what I and many others do (and your Satellite Receiver only has 1 HDMI outpot [my HD Directv receiver has 1]) then you would probably need 3 and one set of component cables.

That would entail the following since most of us are only interested in Blue-ray when using our audio systems:

1 running from the Satellite receiver into the Surround Receiver
1 running from the Blu-ray player into the Surround Receiver
1 running out from the Surround Receiver into the HD TV

Since my HD Directv receiver only has 1 HDMI output, I also run a component set directly from the Satellite Receiver into the TV along with the Toslink audio connection so that I can watch the TV without my audio system.

In my case, I have a 4th HDMI cable for also running from my Denon DVD 5910 into my Onkyo PR-SC885 Pre/pro.

Rich

Thanks Rich..yeah it is a Directv reciever so that's what I'll do. I only have two HDMI cables so got to get another one.

I didn't have the Directv receiver in front of me but thought it had two HDMI outputs so that clears that up.

Appreciate the advice.
