Annoying Blu-Ray Cases - Blu-ray Forum

Is anyone else getting REALLY annoyed that everytime you go to remove the plastic covering the top of the cases that they ALWAYS either tear the plastic on the case itself when you remove it or leave sticky residue behind?

I just finished destroying The Thing on Blu-Ray because the plastic on the side got a big hole as a result so I tore all the plastic off, which in hindsight wasn't smart as that's what holds in the paper insert.

I've had that problem with DVDs before, but never with Blu. Aren't most of the seals on the case itself as opposed to the sleeve?

I've never had that problem. You must be in a serious rush when you're opening them.

Try to have a little patience and take your time. It's not Christmas morning.

Never had that happen either. The plastic sticker is usually on the case but not the sleeve.

i've gotten very efficient at removing those stupid things. lol. so no i dont get any of that.

It's definitely worse with DVD's, but it's more annoying when it happens with Blu-Rays

Well it looks like it doesn't matter because I get sound and the menus but no picture out of the damn thing. You know I really f**king hate Blu-Ray sometimes.

I always have more problems with the stupid anti-theft stickers inside leaving gluey mess all over.

I do indeed HATE THIS. I admit, I have gotten increasingly more efficient at taking them off without causing too much damage, but in the beginning it was hell. I can't remember a lot of the titles that I've had this prob with since I have secretly exchanged them with an unknowing family member (the cases not the titles) he he he

But I can tell you the most recent. It was The descent. I'm actually proud with this one though, as I managed to get it all off with zero damage to the plastic, and only minimal residue. I developed a technique that I'm sure is quite commonplace, use the sticker to get the excess glue off. You have to hold it tight around your finger and kind of do a roll and slight twist at the same time. It might take a little experimenting but you'll get it.

Yep yep! That's what I do too, but with some Lionsgate releases it still doesn't help. They must be using super glue!

I have only had this happen with the bluray movies that had 3 security stickers. My solution was buying extra bluray cases off ebay...

Well I finally got it working....I bowed East towards Mecca, turned in circles 3 times, and prayed to the Blu-Ray gods (and turned the player off and on, reset the HDMI cable several times etc.) and was able to get a picture again.

Great movie on Blu btw (The Thing).

No I haven't had this problem with blu rays, I have had that problem with dvds in the past but I won't buy no more : )

This only happened to me when I got my free copy of Chicken Little, way back when you would get the 5 free Blu-ray's but only because they put like 3 stickers on every side and it was like glued PHYSICALLY right onto the case... No big loss though, since it was only Chicken Little. Other then that incident, it hasn't happened to me in years.

Some of the early releases had a tough glue that was hell trying to remove. However, this is something that is no longer an issue in my opinion. You just gotta be careful and gently lift the sticker on the hard plastic edge not the sleeve.
