Default How do I transfer .mov movie file to ps3

I have a 80 gb full hd movie file in .mov format that was edited using final cut express. I've tried converting it to mp4 format or whatever it was that ps3 accepted but my mac is not able to complete the conversion without giving me some "general error" b.s error message after 8 hours of supposedly attempted conversion.

Does anybody have a better idea? thanks.

What was the original movie format? Is it DV fottage form a video cam? No matter what it was you should be able to convert it to .mp4.

Why not just change the name of a film to a .mp4?

Most of the time you can just add .mp4 to the end of the name of the film.

That will only really work if the original file was an mp4, It all depends on what the original format file is

That's wrong. I've changed all sorts of video files to mp4 that were other files

What types of files? .mov, .avi? Those are containers which can hold mp4 encoded video which is what your movie probably was in the first place.

If you had a divx encoded file you couldn't change it to mp4 and vice versa.

Example, download a trailer from the apple website, it will be a .mov file. Then export the file doing a "passthrough" (no compression) to an mp4. It will take seconds because it already was an mp4 in a .mov container.

The video was SHOT on dv tape and captured to final cut express. after final editing the movie file size is 80gb uncompressed and fukkin beautiful. the problem is it takes about 12 hours for my imac to convert the file to mp4 and approx around 8 hours later it simply stops the process and gives me an error that says "general error" WTF is that!!!???

Nice! Ok your gonna have to get that file size down to 50GB for a BD (as mentioned before) or even smaller if you want to transfer to your PS3 (4GB or under) sucks i know. Maybe try Toast 9 for a BD option. http://www.mgisoft.com/

There's a program called Visual Hub, unfortunately its been discontinued but im sure you could find a copy somewhere, its an excellent program for file conversion. Or you could try ffmpegx http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ But your going to lose a lot of quality compressing it so heavily.

PS What camera did you shoot with?

Is it "General Error" or "General Error (XX)" (with XX being a number) ?

i hired someone to shoot it in HD (wedding) and they used a sony and canon professional cameras. dont remember what model but definitely one of those shoulder mount types. I edited the video myself using final cut express. Hey I was thinking of purchasing a external blu ray burner that comes with toast 9, here's the link. tell me what you think. thanks.

Yeah the burner looks good mate if you don't mind the price. I have Toast 9 and while it is a good program it has a few bugs but not enough to not buy it.

If you have quicktime pro there is an easier way. This is how i do all my hd trailers in .mov format so i can put them on my PS3. Open it up with quicktime then hit file then export then save your file wherever you want and it should only take a few minutes.

If the movie is 80GB uncompressed, you need to have a prosumer or consumer BD encoding software and a BD burner. You need to make your very first BDMV and compress it down to 50GB.

Here's a link of your various software option with detailed info on pricing and capabilities done by E-Media Live.

Yeah, QuickTime Pro would be your best bet and most reliable converter, assuming the file size can be handled. It's about $40 for the current version and you shouldn't have to pay for it again until they come out with a new version.

I think you are right my friend. I was gonna try that but the soft and hardware last checked were still expensive.
