Unhappy problems with audio for games

I know this has been asked before, but the suggestions given in the threads i've found haven't worked.

I have a ps3 and started using the hdmi for audio and video. I have the hdmi going into my tv and optical going from my tv for my receiver. the audio for movies is great, and I can hear the audio when I am on the icons for demo games. but when I play dames (demo or full) the audio disappears. I waited until after update 1.6 to seek help about this. when I use the optical as my audio out for the ps3 you can hear just fine. so what the f#%$ can I do? i've tried pulling out and replacing the hdmi, reseting the ps3, unplugging the ps3, using a different hdmi cable etc etc. so what can I do to get my audio back?

I would use my optical cable as the audio out but the cable isn't long enough to reach my receiver.

well try buying a longer audio cable and see if that helps. if not reply back here and someone will help. im saying this because once all your options are gone then someone should have something for you. but make sure to try that longer cable.

Firstly, try this. When you play BD/DVD movies using your receiver, do you get true 5.1 or is it running via some sort of sound processing like Dolby PLII? If that is the case, the optical audio from your TV to the receiver is outputting stereo only and not Dolby Digital or DTS.

I don't know why there wouldn't be at least stereo sound coming from the games.

Do this. Use optical directly from the PS3 to the receiver. Use HDMI for video only. Switch between audio coming from your receiver (via optical) to your HDTV (for nightime play via HDMI audio). Better immersion, I think.

when I run the optical out of the ps3 I do get the game audio. I thought about getting another optical cable simply for that. but I think there might be another issue and getting a longer optical cable might just be fixing the symptom and not the disease. the hdmi audio works for everything except the games. even the movie trailers and songs I have stored on the ps3 have audio. if no one else has had this problem i'll look for a helpline or customer service number to call.

I get pretty annoyed playing full auto 2 and not being able to hear my friends blow up.

I forgot to mention that the audio for the games did work at one point, then suddenly stopped.

Well , unless you changed a setting, that sounds bad. You might have not done an upgrade that changed settings for you and something in the audio has to be reset again, by any chance woudn't you?

Don't you know anyone else with a "fully" working PS3 that might come to your house (or you go with your PS3 to a friend's house that has similar hdmi set up) and test (and check setting are equal on both machines)?
