Default Which is the best way to connect PS3 to HD-TV? HDMI or......?

I am going to buy a PS3 in maybe a week, or maybe 2 weeks. Need to sort things out with my TV furniture first.

What is the best way to connect a PS3 to the HD-TV? I will be using optical out for sound.

HDMI or Component? I know the PS3 sometimes freezes, is this because of heat or HDMI handshake? Or maybe something to do with the firmware?

Personally I want to use HDMI, but if the most of you guys recommend component, then I'll go with component.

HDMI because it is an "all digital" connection. It handles the best video and audio. Best video up to 1080P provided you have a monitor that handles FULL HD resolution. As well it handles the best uncompressed audio (uncompressed multi-channel PCM sound) that blu-ray has to offer. A receiver that decodes and outputs uncompressed audio is also required. *PEACE*

The freezeing issue is not related to the video connection so dont worry about that. Go with what was said one post above.

HDMI is best.

Seems that some Westinghouse displays had some handshake issues with the PS3 (do a search on Westinghouse on this forum), and with the Samsung at one point (I posted about that a long time ago on the software forum I think)

HDMI for a sharp, bright, all-digital connection.

HDMI it is.

I dont have an HDMI reciever yet, waiting for TruHD and Master HD decode capable HDMI receivers. I will follow your advice and use HDMI for picture, and in the future HDMI for sound and picture.

Thanks alot guys.

In case you guys were wondering, this is my tv:
http://www.koopinfo.nl/prodb_product...productid=1760

It is a 26", bigger than 26" is just way too big for my room. It has a 6ms reponse time, hope there is no gaming lag, though.
I havent got the tv yet, but it should arrive in a few days.

It's generally HDMI if you want the best.

Of course, there's also other cheaper though lesser quality connectors such as component or composite (heck, I think Jap PS3s support D-terminal :P)

So the choices are there but HDMI is still the best so far.

The digital out is compressed to what bitrate?

Trying to decide if it's worth it to me to upgrade to a new receiver.

I believe the newest version of PS3 software fixed the 'freeze' issue. I have not seen it since I installed it and have quite a few Blu-Ray. Prior to that I just turned off my Internet connection - but don't have to do that anymore.

And to top it off - I don't even use HDMI out for my PS3 since my HDTV is older and supports DVI.

Bottom line : Not an HDMI issue.
