Default King Kong 1976 Blu-ray???

Has there been any word on King Kong 1976 being released on Blu-ray? This film is long overdue for a new release. It would be great to see it arrive on Blu-ray with the theatrical and extended TV version that has an extra 45 mins of footage. Also..a documentary on the making of the movie is essential. Not one dvd release of this film yet has had an "making of" documentary or commentary.

There is a version of King Kong due out in 2009, but not sure which one. I am assuming it is the 2005 film directed by Peter Jackson or it could be the 1933 version.

i believe it is the 1933 version, but i wouldn't be surprised if they released both at the same time.

as for the 1976 version, hahahaha what a joke of a remake (in my opinion). although, there's a lot of social commentary and political subtext hidden beneath what many people consider just another piece of lackluster entertainment, so i'll give it that. the ape model just cracks me up every time i see it tho

I can't imaging the effects of the 1976 film looking anything less than fake in Blu-ray. Tho' watching Jessica Lange falling into the water in her less than nothing costume would be inviting.

The 1933 version is my favorite version. So visionary for its time and still a thrilling - and sexy - story.

I passed on the 2005 DVD and I'll probably pass on its Blu-ray. I saw the film in theatres and was entertained but underwhelmed.

Definitly 33. I want that one too. Haven't heard anything about 05 Kong, which I also want.

That would be awesome. The 76 Kong has had so many bare bone releases, it's not even funny. I want a Blu-Ray of Kong 76 as well, especially with the extras mentioned above.

I agree. King Kong '76 is the version I grew up with. Granted, I now acknowledge it as the weakest of the 3 versions, but I still have an affection for it left over from my childhood. Walmart's selling it on DVD for $4. I might just pick that up to hold me over for now. But a blu-ray release would be fantastic.

I'll have to agree. I remember watching this on tv when I was like 7 years old and I loved it (and Jessica Lang was my first crush ). It was a fun ride at Universal Studios too. So though it's not the best, it does bring back a lot of great memories.

I'd get the 76 version too. I'd love the extended cut. Heck, I'd settle for it on DVD.

I grew up with that one also. I remember being given a poster for it from a friend. It was my first poster...

Mummy the Ride took over the housing were E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Ride was. King Kong is still located on the backlot in a soundstage as part of the tram tour.

And Iam just greaty. I want all three versions!! If Uni could get it all together quickly it would be cool to have a 3-movie boxset of King Kong. Possibly 6-disc.

It's available in other countries on HD DVD so I've been expecting to see an announcement. Hopefully it'll be coming soon (at least as an import). It's the version I prefer and want since it was the one I saw at the theater as a kid and have seen many times over the years.

I hope that the 2005 version of King Kong will have both the theatrical and extended versions of the film via seamless branching. That'd be sweet!

I can't wait to find out! My guess is that they'll look amazing. I really do have high hopes for the 1933 version especially.

I'll take those two on Blu but they can keep the one with Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges. That was terrible.
