Question Sony BDP-S301

Does anyone else have this player and do you have problems playing certain movies? I have 2 big problems: 1) Some movies just won't play but they are only movies I've received from Netflix. Is it my player or is Netflix doing some-thing to their movies? 2) When I put a movie on pause, sometimes the volume is completely gone when I go back to play. I have to hit the pause button again and then play again. I wonder if I just got a bad machine or if I'm doing something wrong.

I own this one as well and have never had any probles like this. The only problen that have been had are from netflix sending out cracked/scratched disks. I blame other renters, more so than netflix, for this problem. As for the audio dropping out, the only thing problem like this I have is when I start playing the movie after a pause the audio doesn't start right off the bat. I don't know if this is still happening with the latest firmware because I haven't tried it in a while.

I must have been smoking crack this morning when I replied. I thought the problem was with the Sony BDP-BX1 not the 301 so disregard this previous post. I am so sorry for any confusion that this may have caused. I try to learn to read before I post next time.

Your first question has been answered. As for your second question, my S301 + Yamaha V663 AVR + Vizio SV470XVT system doesn't do that at all. If you have HDMI going out from the player to your AVR and then to your HDTV, there are a few handshakes taking place after you take the player out of pause. The volume probably isn't gone but getting delayed before it comes back on. Instead of hitting the pause/play buttons next time it happens, wait for several seconds to see if the volume returns. I suspect something in your AVR might be causing the volume delay after pause. I doubt that it's the player.

To test this out just for a test and not permanently, connect your player directly to your HDTV through HDMI and use the TV's internal speakers. If the speakers are off turn them on for this test. Play a movie. Pause it then press play. Does the volume still delay or not come back? If it stops doing that, then the S301 and HDTV are ok. There is probably something going on in the AVR possibly HDMI hand shakes (HDCP stuff). I would get the manual and look in the troubleshooting guide to see if it has any solutions. If not, call the manufacturer's tech support.

These players do seem to have "personalities' and/or "moods". Keep you firmaware up to date....I Have experienced one unplayable and it was due to my firmware.
