BUT of course there are a couple different models that are now offered and I need help with which is better.
Okay first of all, is the PSP worth owning? I never had one and I'm looking for people's opinions. Second, is the 2000 better than the 3000 due to the interlacing issue? Can someone please explain what the deal is. But I would just really like to know if the PSP is worth it and if anyone of my fellow Blu-ray friends like theirs, if they own one. Sorry for the long thread. ![]() ![]() |

ha i dont blame ya. its important to learn about a product before buying it. but yeah the games look pretty good, roughly equal to the ps2 in graphics and the movies are kind of a bust on UMD. they look fine but since its pretty much a dead format i wouldnt recommend buying any unless they come with the psp. you should be able to use the digital copies that come with many movies these days and put them onto your MS pro duo for playback on the psp

Where do you plan on using it the most? I've had a PSP since launch and I've used it mainly when I travel. I sit at home and play MLB on it sometimes (mostly play the PS3 version now). I didn't really start using it until I moved to Chicago and sold my car. I now read PDFs (converted), listen to music and watch TV episodes on it while I'm on the L.
I haven't gotten into to the homebrew community yet but I've been considering it for a while. If that's something your interested in. |

I've had a PSP Phat since launch and never regretted it for a moment. I listen to it a work every day with my nice Shure earphones and it sounds great. I've got 30+ movies on UMD and as the PSP has a fair sized screen it's pretty good for watching while travelling. The battery life is pretty good too, I've watched 2 films one after the other (was a long trip) and there was still plenty of life left. As for games, you can't go far wrong with mini God of War

I'll add that the PSN store has been getting steady good PSP games as of lately (FIFA 09 in Europe this week for example) and you can also get PS1 games that you missed. I expect both of those areas to grow in the coming months, there are plenty of games that are hidden gems on the PSP.

I only have Ratchet&Clank: Size Matters and Final Fantasy 7: CC and those have kept me busy when travlling or wainting at doctors offices. I also use it for MP3s and movies when on the go, even though I also have one of the newer Sony VideoWalkmans. Never had any regrets after buying it. The new PSP/PSN store is great since you can download demos straight to it instead of going through the PC or PS3.

I got a slim PSP last year, and I think its great. I bought it only with the intention of installing custom firmware, so I could have old emulators on it (NES, SNES, GBA, etc). I don't condone downloading ROMs or ISOs of games you don't have, but highly recommend it for games you do own. Also, instead of having to carry those annoying PSP games around, just invest in a large memory stick, and you can copy the games onto that. Between the PSP and PS1 ISOs (or compressed ISOs, CSOs), and classic game ROMs (from NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, MAME, etc) you can have a little portable device with hundreds of games on it at any given time.
You can even buy a memory stick holder that is shaped like a PSP game, so you store it inside the game slot. That way you can carry around 4 memory sticks at a time, which is a lot more convenient than carrying around a bagful of PSP games. Anyhow, I was surprised at how good some of the PSP games are, and own about 10 of them now (you can find good deals on used ones on Amazon). Obviously it depends on what types of games you like, but I recommend: -Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions -Jeanne d'Arc, -Lumines (or Lumines 2, since Lumines is hard to find, and expensive) -Patapon -Hot Shots Golf (either the old one or new one, both are great) The MGS and Syphon Filter games are supposed to be good as well, but I haven't played them. |

I got my psp the day the God of War edition came out. I have honestly not played it since the beginning of Aug.. I need to charge it and start using it again. The remote play is awesome when traveling. I use to leave a ps1 game in my ps3 and play it or the movies on the hdd. I just don't have a need to take it out out of the house and have an ipod for music. I plan on buying one of the rachet&clank games so then it should be used more.
Basically I have no regret in the purchase, and with remote play it is a sold media device. I would recommend getting one, esp. if you travel alot, ect. |
