Default Can't Decide On 46" LCD TV: Sony or Samsung

I have a 3 year old, top of the line 37" Sharp Aquos 768P lcd tv, which is located in my bedroom and I will be buying a new tv within the next 2 weeks to replace it and the new tv will be a good birthday gift for me. Since the beginning of this month, I've been looking at 40" LCD tvs from Samsung (650) and Sony (Z4100). Now I feel that I'll be happier to get a 46" LCD instead of a 40" LCD, because it will be a noticeable difference in pq from 37 inches to 46 inches.

Here are the objectives that I want:
1. Must produce excellent PQ in blu-ray movies and in PS3 games.
2. Very good build quality.
3. Reliable brand.
4. A solid 1080p24 playback.

I'm still considering to purchase either the Samsung LN46A650 or the Sony KDL-46Z4100, but its a difficult decision to make. Which online store is a good place to buy a tv from and that has an excellent return policy (i.e free return shipping). My local Frys has these two tvs on sale. Should I buy the tv locally? Should I buy an extended warranty for the new tv?

Ok don't get me wrong, those are both great TVs, but, save yourself some money, and buy a Panasonic. For that price you can get the TH-46PZ800U which in many peoples opinion are much better. Unless there are extraneous factors such as lighting, or just personal tastes for an LCD.

I just picked up a Panasonic TH-42PZ85U and could not happier. Replaced my Sony 42A10 RP LCD. I'm still running at the "break in" setting but it looks beautiful. I would have got the 46" version but I got a sick deal on this one. Anyone want to buy a Sony 42A10?

Get the sony, usually I would say samsung, but the 650 seems to have some issues and the sony starts to match up to the samsungs at that level very well, otherwise the 750 is a great TV, just not sure about the $$. I usually find samsung offers better options and features in the 550 series vs the S and V series.

Since 24p playback was one of the things he wanted, unless Panny has solved the flicker problem with 24p mode engaged I would stay away from the 800U. Don't get me wrong I was looking at that Panny too but the flicker to me was unbearable taking away the advantage of 24p. Also a big reason I went with the Z is it's thin bezel, in the space I had where 42" Panny or Sammy could fit a 46" Z able to fit.

me being an lcd fan, i'd have to go with either or

When it comes to Sony or Samsung, your dealing with the price diff

Sony is known for better quality/CS but for a lot more coin

Samsung is known for more bang for your buck.

Both lcd's look great, just depends on what your looking to spend.

You will get more features at a lesser cost if you choose Samsung.

I cheated on Sony this time around on my last tv purchase due to cost.

I looked at Panasonic plasma's in stores, and i was not impressed. Not that they are bad tv's, but I thought the Sony/Samsung lcd's out shined them.

BTW, if your order the sammy 46inch 650 series lcd through Amazon by Nov 17th, you get the sammy bdp 1500 for 4 bucks LOL

eh, imo, Sony top of the line models are better then Samsung's

But on mid level tv's, there isn't much difference either way PQ wise

I recently bought the LN46A650 and it's amazing! The picture quality is "wow-ing", with very deep, dark blacks and amazingly vibrant colors (watch speed racer, you'll know what i'm talkin about). And the 120hz is great for games

I researched this tv for a month, and every great review that I read was true. Amazon has it now for $1549
