Why are Videos released on Tuesdays? - Blu-ray Forum

i think it has to do with boosting mid-week game/movie/music sales since generally tues/wed will be the slowest day for sales if the new releases weren't on that day.

videos are released on tuesday as that is the u.s. street date for movies and music. my guess for this would be because movies play/open in theaters on fridays, sometimes thursdays, and sometimes wednesdays. so it's either monday or tuesday. since monday is the box office day and also the beginning of the week, tuesday makes the most sense. most all entertainment is released on tuesdays. it's been that way for well over 25 years.

In Canada, Some games are also released on sundays.

I know most stores now get their movies almost a week in advance, so I think the Tuesday thing is more tradition than anything else nowadays.
