Default a Very Cheap Blu-ray set up...

Hello all

I want to get a Blu-ray setup as cheap as possible...i may in time get a set of Jamo speakers and a multi channel reciever/amp thing to go with it but in the meantime I'm considering either getting a PS3 or a Panny BD-35 for a player but alot it seems is spent on the speakers etc..

At the moment I've got a PS2 (for DVD's)and a 26" Samsung LE HD TV with some logitech 2.1 PC speakers (x-230's) plugged into the headphone jack which actually sound pretty good..

So my question is has anyone got a blu ray player that only uses a set of 5.1 PC speakers (the Logitech x-540's look pretty good for £50) and if so
does it work ? Or would it work ??

I'm keen to know...until I win the lottery

What device has the headphone jack? I assume the PS2 right? The TV you have most likely does not come with a headphone jack so the audio from the BD player will come out of the speakers from the TV.

What is your budget? If you can give us a number we can wisely spend the money.

I'd keep saving up for at least an entry-level Polk setup.

What? For $900 he can get an Onkyo 606, Panasonic DMP-BD35, and Polk 5.1 RM-series speakers that would blow that out of the water!

But like, another fellow said, it is best to save up for something that is long lasting instead of settling for less. Unless you just want something low budget anyway to hold you over....

I'm not going to disagree I really don't know much about budget systems hehe. I saw that on the BB website the other day and thought it would be nice for someone looking for a system easy to hook up and small sat speakers. Def not my cup of tea.

Your suggestion is def better! But some people arent into stand alone players and bigger speakers, he may want something clean and simple. That Sony set up is not all that bad... BD player, 5.1 in a single unit.

I heard of people using the Logitch Z-5500 with their PS3. That combo would get you into a blu-ray system for about $650 or so.

I never said it was HDMI, just cheap and 5.1.

I would not recommend this if HD audio was a requirement. He only said that he wanted a cheap blu-ray setup and did not specify a budget. Nothing more.

The headphone jack from the speakers plugs into the headphone socket on the TV...(For 5.1 you need a splitter apparently as there is more than one headphone jack to accommodate)

My budget is maybe £500, this used to be about $1000 but is now around $740 ,everything here in the uk seems to be more expensive too, for example the Onkyo 606 in the US is $289 compared with $518 in the UK

I could get a samsung BDP-1500 for around £140 plus i'm thinking about getting the 5.1 pc speakers via headphone socket until I can afford a complete HD sound system...Looks like a case of trial and error

you could try the sony speaker system in my sig, not the top of the line but they work well and are upgradable later if you want to do that. I think you can get sony products there inexpensively... from reading some other posters... you could get the panny bd35 and a sony 820.
