depends what you have, how many, etc....

what "I" would do.... is wait.... when they are available for $10 or so... then pick them up..... If I were to replace ALL of my DVDs for blu-rays (assuming they were available) at $20 a piece, I'd just have to come up with $24,164 or so.... (after tax ) and that's a low estimate, counting a Season of a T.V. show simply as "One DVD"

I think that you might have to keep some, in case you believe that movie or whatever won't be coming out on blu, like a program recorded on 480i/p (unless they upconvert it. Sorry I had to say the 'U' word).

Some very minor dvd releases will likely never see a Blu-ray release. There are still tons of VHS and Laserdisc movies that have never made it to dvd. With the entry level price of producing BDs a little higher than prior formats, I would expect to see less overall niche titles produced on Blu-ray.

I think an easy start is to trade in/sell the discs you already have on blu. I travel for work and have a portable DVD players so some movies won't be sold for quite some time. I've sold 20+ of my duplicate titles and picked up a couple blu's for the price.

No, you worked hard to earn your money so what you need to do is get rid of the big titles and get them on Bluray.
As for more casual movies, If you want one that you don't have on DVD then yes get it on Bluray but if you already have it on DVD, I say keep it.

i took the titles out of my standard collection and set them to the side and as i bought them on blu, i got rid of the standard dvd. i personally wouldn't get rid of a movie w/o buying a new copy 1st. but that's just me.

Depends...do what you want....weigh the costs/benefit of each. For me, the only must purchases on day 1 are disney vaulted BR releases.

I'll eventually upgrade most of mine but this is not a necessity in my life as I'm sure they'll be cheaper down the road. Till then I'll keep my DVD's

It depends. A lot of folk, myself included are picking and choosing their double dips. anything new coming out I have purchased exclusively Blu Ray for the last 2 years. But Im not doing some older titles, mostly comedies and some older dramas for instance.

Recently I bought Dogma on Blu. And while it was really good PQ, I felt like my DVD copy of Dogma was fine so I traded it for another newer blu that I wanted. But I also recently bought Unforgiven and immediately gave my DVD copy away. and of course when titles Like the LOTR trilogy come out I will immediately buy it on Blu and either sell or give away my DVD copies. The look of the films on TBS HD was gorgeous compaared to my DVD copies so to have them in glorious 1080 P is a must have

How much do they give at stores for DVD ? It's probably from 2 to 10 max per DVD.

dollars? i don't think so. dvd's are cheap now and you don't get a whole lot for them when you sell them. maybe $2-$3 a dvd. i don't think you can get any more than that and certainly not $10. of the $2-$3 adds up if you have a lot of dvd's. if you don't then it's not really worth it. but that's not taking into account the number of dvd's they might not take when you try to sell them. the store you sell them to might only take half of your collection. at that point it really isn't worth it much.

I'm willing to go to FYE and trade them for credit to buy some Blu-Ray.
