Default Microsoft Involvement in HD DVD

Now I'm aware that Toshiba developed the format, but I remember reading various articles over the years as to how Microsoft was supporting HD DVD financially as well as being involved in the talks and part of the reason the format war wasn't reconciled. I remember them saying how Microsoft wanted some sort of features that wouldn't work with Blu-ray copy write protection. For the life of me now, I'm not sure where to go to get that evidence, anyone more knowledgeable able to help out?
