Was watching Mrs. Doubtfire a few minutes ago - nothing was on. Forgot just how good Sally Field is. Then I remembered her best film ever - Places In The Heart.

Perhaps I am the only one, but I really love that movie. Has something in it for everyone and is a classic that will live on forever. I truly hope they give it a blu release sometime.

In the meantime, I picked up my first dvd in over a year - this movie. Cheap at 8 bux, I said what the hell and bought it.

If you have not seen this film, go rent it. You will not be disappointed.

It's a real shame that this movie has never made it to blu-ray. It is one of the best dramas I've ever seen, and for someone who lives in the south, it has a true sense of authenticity. This is exactly how life was back then in this area. You picked cotton until your fingers bleed, went to small churches and dealt with deadly tornados.

OP, you are not the only one. I think this is a beautiful, lyrical gem of a movie. Although I am an atheist, I break down in the last scene every time.

This showed recently on the Sony Movie Channel in HD in an absolutely beautiful transfer. It would make an excellent BD.

And yes, the final scene never fails to devastate me either.
