I was thinking about buying a cooling fan for my ps3. just wondered if anyone has any comments/issues about them.

I had the fan by Nyco. Biggist POS I ever wasted money on. My PS3 would get even more hot with this thing on. Also, my PS3 disc drive died a few weeks after using it. I'm certain this so called cooler had something to do with it.
I would stay away. Try keeping your PS3 outside of any cabinets. It's worked for me. |

From the posts I've read in the past these attachable fans seem to reduce the lifespan of the PS3 rather than lengthen it. Just keep it in a well ventillated place and free of dust and it should be fine. Spend the money on something else.

I think if it really needed it, the PS2 and the PS3 would already have a cooling fan. I used to be concerned about my PS2 and when I got deeeep into the Final Fantasy games, I learned that it could easily go a week witout fail witout being turned off.
I'm sure the PS3 is as strong if not stronger then the PS2 was. Also....you'd be adding more noise to an already kinda loud unit. |

Well, the PS3 does overheat differently when playing blu-rays as opposed to games with blu-ray play causing more heat! So just to be safe, I use the Pelican Air Flo Cooler but I only turn it on after I'm done playing movies. This is what I'm doing and perhaps this is overkill but it gives me added peace of mind.

Currently I use a 4 inch desk fan and point it out of the cabinet. It's a bit loud but keeps the PS3 cool. I will be upgrading to the USB fan below so I don't have to turn the fan on and off.

Hence the fan. Stays cooler now. It use be hot to the touch. My TV stand is closed in the back because my TV moves up and down on a motor.
I may drill two fan holes for the PS3 and two for the receiver but not sure if I want do that damage just yet. |
