Default Who reads the instruction booklet in their videogames ?

I was wondering who reads the little booklet that comes with each game ?
You know the booklet that says which buttons do what in that particular game, what's the story and so on. It seems these booklets used to be much more exhaustive but now they seem to be much more summarized as people seem to not read those too much.

So do you guys like to patiently read them before playing the game or do you jump on the game and avoid altogether the booklet or instructions manual (whatever it is called).

15 Years ago on the Sonic games I used to totally read the manual for almost one hour before touching the game, now I barely look at it as playing the game is what I do to fine tune my play. How about you ?

I usually jump in and refer to the manual if a question comes up.

They should drop the manuals and drop price by $5 to all games.

Usually I ignore the instructions until I get to something that I want/need to do in the game and can't figure out how to do. I will also crack it open to verify certain voice actors if I think I recognize a voice, if those credits are included.

They should just let us (at least the option) download any game and we can drop the manuals, Discs and cases altogether and drop the price by Half.

An interesting suggestion. But a free manual online would be welcome too.

I only ever look to the manual for the first time if I can't figure something out after I've been playing for a few hours. That being said, I think that I looked at the MGS4 manual one time while playing it. If I can only require one quick glance for a complicated game like that, why bother with the manual for any others?

I read them if I buy a game during my lunch break at work or something. So typically whenever I do not have an opportunity to actually play the game. I however do not go out of my way to actually read it nor do I always consider them that helpful as now games typically have their mandatory in-game tutorials.

This.

Basically if I get to a part of the game where the in-game tutorials have failed me, I'll glance through the manual to see if I can find the answer (sometimes this happens). After that if it's still important I'll check the net.

I'll start playing the game and look through the booklet before going to bed, after I've stayed up WAY to late playing. They do help with small problems, or to clarify some aspects of the game, though.

Another reason I don't bother too much with the booklet anymore is the typical explanation of the buttons use. I swear I just don't understand it as it is in the booklet. I need to actually play the game and move the character around to actually learn the controls.

I've played games where the more advanced techniques aren't taught in the tutorials in-game. They aren't even eluded to. Without reading the book, you wouldn't know you could do some things at all!
