When I attempt to download the latest firmware release, it wants to know my OS - my WINDOWS OS.
I use a MAC. How can I get the firmware downloaded. And THEN what do I do? I have a Sony S300. ANY help would be appreciated, thanks. |

What's good from Alaska? Anyways, Meth92, I too use a Mac. I'm running the latest OS but its installed on a Power G4, otherwise I would be able to dual boot. When I saw this post, I went ahead to tinker with the firmware to see if I could open it or at least have my computer recognize the file, but to no avail, nothing would be recognized. If you have an Intel-based Mac, then you should try to run Boot Camp and log into Windows and be able to download the firmware file. I hope that works. ![]() |

Greetings from San Diego.
I actually got the .exe file to download - but now what? When I insert the CD/R into my Blue Ray player - it jsut says DATA DISK and nothing happens. I am sure that I am missing a step here...... |

You need to extract the .exe file but Mac's do not use/understand .exe. |

Have any of you purchased a Blu-ray burner for a Mac Pro? If so, which one did you order and how has it worked?
I didn't see a thread for this. If I missed it, I apologize and would love to be re-directed. Jef |

Presuming you have an intel Mac, try Bootcamp. |

You'd also need to ad an HDCP compliant video card and monitor. No existing Apple branded monitor (with the exception of the recently released 24" MacBook only monitor) is HDCP complaint. Nor is any OEM video card HDCP compliant. Perhaps that will change with 10.6 |

If you happen to have Toast, the following should work. And I'm still using v6.0.3!
This info may be a little late here, but I managed to get the firmware update to work on a CD even though I have an iMac using OS 10.5 and Sony insists rather archaically, if not lamely, that you should own a Windows machine, the bastids. Anyway, steps as follows: 1) The latest update as of this post is UPDATA_M03R742. As I'm in the Asia-Pacific region, the URL is <http://tinyurl.com/3qkapll>. Other regions, you'll have to Google. 2) Click Downloads. When asked to "Select Operating System", just click the first one, Windows 7; this one is as good as another in this case. Leave "Filter Files by type" at Software Patches. No choice, really. 3) Below that is the "Firmware File Description". Click "Go to Download Page". 4) Scroll down until you see "Download the Firmware and Create an Upgrade Disc section", not all that easy to spot. Click that and you will get the next page: 5) Check the box agreeing to "Terms & Conditions". 6) Click download button next to "Firmware Update ..." just below. You will be downloaded a .zip file, the UPDATA mentioned above. 7) After the download get Stuffit or The Unarchiver to unzip. 8) Place the two unzipped files, MSB03-FW.Bin and MSB03-FW.ID into a folder somewhere, call it anything you like. 9) Bring up Toast. Set the menu to "Data", and make sure the button with the left-pointing arrow reads "Mac & PC". If it doesn't, click on it and make the proper adjustment on the sliding panel. 10) Now drag the two MSB03 files to Toast. Change the folder "My Disc" to something like "Sony Firmware Upgrade 742". 11) Burn the CD 12) Turn on your TV. Turn on the Sony Blu-Ray player. Insert the CD. The message "Perform version update" should display. On the remote, select OK and hit Enter. Do not touch anything until the screen reads FINISH. Could take awhile. The Sony should then pop out the CD and turn itself off. 13) Turn it back on, find "Screen Settings" and Voila, 742 should be there. Hope this works. If the CD can't be read, just call Sony and they'll mail you a CD. |

Hi,
The Sony .exe can be opened by a free Mac app called the Unarchiver. Happily it it reveals an ISO file which you then burn to a CD in Disk Utility. Using Sony remote follow their install instructions and hopefully you'll be good to go. Hope this helps, take care George |
