After having the opportunity to compare Direct TV, Comcast and Verizon FIOS nothing beats Verizon FIOS for service providers in terms of quality. Verizon is 100% fiber optics all the way to the outside of the house and offers more bandwidth then Direct TV, Dish Network, and Comcast combined. Verizon Internet packages currently go all the way up to 50MB download with 20MB upload (Perfect for BD-LIVE HD video clips). A more economical Internet package for the average consumer offers 20MB download with 5MB upload speed.
The channel selections are amazing with around a dozen Christian channels, several sports channels, and just about every channel one can think of. With all the video and audio channels the program guide goes up to around the number 2,000 for channels. Verizon is also 100% digital for both SD and HD channels. All of their channels are master broadcast quality with a video and audio bit rate the same quality as the original signal. Verizon has over 100 HD channels with the bandwidth to add several hundred more HD channels in the future. Perhaps one day there will be over 1,000 HD channels to watch. Verizon also has over 10,000 video on demand movies in a mixture of both HD and SD quality. Verizon still only offers 1080I as the highest quality, but most likely will offer 1080P channels in the future. Only BLU-RAY 1080P movie discs look and sound better then the best 1080I Verizon channels. In fact, I only use Verizon for the Internet and do all my TV watching with the BLU-RAY player. Other family members in the house that do not care about the absolute best quality that BLU-RAY provides are hooked on Verizon video on demand and all the channels they offer. Perhaps one day in 5 years or so one will be able to purchase or rent a 50GB BLU-RAY disc and download it over a fast Internet connection like Verizon. By then 100MB or 300MB+ Internet speeds might be possible. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 11-23-2008 at 06:01 AM. |
